Question about 1984 Honda VT 500 C Shadow

1 Answer

My 2003 750 shadow spirit tail light/brake light is always on

My 2003 750 shadow spirit tail light is always activated on the higher setting as if breaking. Both front lever and rear pedal brake light switches are functioning properly. When I disconnect the brake light switch wire from the tail light input by the control box by the battery, the tail light dims to the proper intensity. Something is feeding the line juice between the brake light switches and the final connector to the tail light.

Has anyone dealt with this before, or have any suggestions? I'm stuck...

Ensure the bulb is correctly fitted!!

You must have a foot hand brake switch mal-adjusted / faulty. back them both off (If possible) and it should extinguish.

Does it still work with headlamps off?? If so then one of the switches are faulty / need adjusting.

Taillights not working but brake light does

You have a "Dual Element" bulb.
One element is for the tail light, the other for the brake light, all in one bulb.

Usually, one element will burn out before the other.

So, check that both elements are good in the bulb.
If not, replace the bub.

If that's not the problem, check the fuse for the tail light.

2007 Honda VT 750 Shadow rear tail light not working

Hi, Anonymous tail light issues are relatively easy to diagnose and repair always check the tail light fuse first and make sure you have power on both sides of the fuse holder and the usual suspects are:
1. Tail light bulb element is broken.
2. Tail light bulb soldered contacts are extremely worn down.
3. Tail light bulb socket corroded.
4. Tail light bulb socket has no power and or ground.
5. Tail light wiring harness damaged from the rear tire.
6. Tail light rear fender wiring harness connector faulty due to corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets.

2002 Honda VT 750 DC Shadow Spirit no brake lights

Hi, Carl before diagnosing any brake light issue always check the bulb and fuse first for integrity a brake light staying on is usually caused by the front brake light switch, which is mechanical, not disengaging. On early models moving the throttle control housing closer to the front brake master cylinder is the main fix. On late models, the switch gets tweaked and needs to be realigned. A brake light that does not come on when the brake lever is applied can be caused by a faulty switch or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. The rear brake light switch is hydraulic and it is extremely rare to malfunction in a closed circuit condition causing the brake light to stay on. Usually, rear brake light switch issues are caused by no brake pedal free play or a sticky rear master cylinder piston. A brake light that does not come on when the rear brake pedal is depressed can be caused by a faulty switch, air contamination in the brake line, or no continuity in the wiring at the switch.
