Best oil would be Penzoil, or Penrite. Fuel i would go for premium, with the highest octane rating. minimum 95

I have used AmsOil 10w40 motorcycle oil since the day I boutght my Honda, and I now have 73,000 miles on it and my mechanic says I can take my bike across country without worrying about it. That's the kind of condition it's in. Also, the owners manual will tell you what kind of fuel to use. I have a VT 750 Aero, and it calls for 87 octane (regular). I tried Premium and lost 10 mpg. I dropped down to Mid Grade and got 6 of those miles back. I dropped down to regular and got all my mileage back and that's the grade that my bike runs best on. Use the grade that the manual calls for unless there is a mechanical condition that requires higher octane.

The lower the octane without pinging, the more power you'll generate. People that say burn premium "cuz it just feels right" are mechanically inept. Octane ratings are based on the engine compression etc. Thi sis why people can and do get higher mileage with lower octane.

This is my first car and I want to change the oil so I need to know what type of filter I need, spin on or cartridge?, plus quantity of oil need including filter

Good maintenance is what keeps a car, bike or truck safe and reliable and slows depreciation of the value.

Breakdowns can't be planned, they are never convenient and usually cost more to put right than can easily be afforded. Good maintenance can virtually eliminate breakdowns and the really good news is maintenance can be planned.

It is true that oil changes are important but there is much, much more to good maintenance than an oil change, in fact modern engines are so clean the oil change has lost much of it's traditional importance and moved down the list considerably.

I advise you to begin your car ownership as you mean to continue - by doing your best for your car. I suggest you begin by investing in a Haynes manual or similar for your car. The first couple of chapters cover maintenance schedules and how to complete each item and also provides valuable technical information such as oil grades, quantities and almost everything you will need to know.

Oil filters aren't expensive so if there is doubt about which to buy why not buy both sale or return.
Choose your brand of oil and there will be an application catalogue that will tell you the grade of oil and the quantity you need.

Good luck!

Will experienced Honda owners share best practices with a young family driving a 2004 Accord?

Tire-Go by the label on the door jam on the driver's door
Oil-Follow the manufacturer's recommendation in the owner's manual
Maintenance-Today's cars usually come with a maintenance schedule. Follow the proper maintenance for the mileage your car currently has on it.
If that puppy has only 45,000 miles on it, the timing chain shouldn't have to be replaced until it's between 120,000 and 150,000 miles.

I Don't know what type of oil to put in my 1992 honda accord

This is right from the owner's manual: Recommended Engine Oil: API Premium grade 5W-20 detergent oil . 5W-20 oil is formulated for yearround protection of your Honda, to improve cold weather starting, and to help your engine use less fuel. If 5W-20 oil is not available, a 5W-30 oil may be used. However, it should be replaced with 5W-20 at the next oil change. ---------- for more help in how to change oil and oil filter in your Honda car please click the link below. https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/om/AC0202/AC0202O00250A.pdf Thanks. How much chan lubricant should be used and what is the grade of the oil

You want to buy Bar grade oil, it is sticky and stays on the chain, it will properly lube the bar and chain with a full tank o gas. People have used, used motor oil but this wears down the chain and gears from the micro sized filings in the oil so use clean bar oil to lube the chain correctly. also if the chain sprocket has a small hole in the tip of the saw you will need to buy a gear lube pump to keep grease in the gear at the tip of the blade. This should be lube each time you fill the fuel tank and once half way threw the tank of fuel to make the bar last longer. The bar oil is a special grade of oil and requires bar oil for it to adhere to the bar and the bar guides. Hope this helps and thanks for using fix-ya.
