Question about 2002 Yamaha TT-R 250

Where dose the ground cable run to on a 2002 yamaha vyrago 250, having low voltage prb. unless i put bosster on, then it runs and charges finer, just wont start.

It just needs a good contact with the metal of the frame. There should be a nut or bolt within reach of the lead to firmly attach to. Ensure there is a wire from one of the engine head bolts running to a good earth on the frame also. Your battery may be low on electrolyte solution or a cell maybe dying. Consult your owner's manual or same on-line for battery information.

1989 Yamaha Xv 250 Virago S voltage regulator getting hot and smoking


Hi, Zombro8888 make sure the regulator is properly grounded before testing any electrical component in the Charging System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
1. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
2. To check the regulator unplug it from the stator. Take a test light and clip it to the negative terminal of the battery and then touch first one pin and then the other on the plug that goes to the regulator. If you get even the slightest amount of light from the test light the regulator is toast.
To do this with a meter: black lead to battery ground, red lead to each pin on the plug, start with the voltage scale higher than 12vdc and move voltage scale down in steps for each pin. Any voltage is a bad regulator.
3. On the other part of the disconnected regulator plug. Set the multimeter for Ohms x1 scale and measure for resistance across the pins of the stator. You should read something around 0.1 to 0.2 ohms for a 32 amp system.
4. Then check for continuity between each pin on the plug and frame/engine ground. The meter needle should not move (infinite resistance)(digitals will show infinite resistance) if the meter needle does move (indicating continuity)(digitals will show some resistance), recheck very carefully. If the meter still shows continuity to ground the stator is shorted (bad).
5. Set the meter to read A/C volts higher than 30 volts (the scale setting for voltage should always be higher than the highest voltage you expect or you may fry the meter). Start the bike, and measure from one pin to the other on the plug (DO NOT cross the multimeter probes! - touch them to each other). You should read roughly 16-20 vac per 1,000 rpm.
6. If the battery was good under load test, if the stator is NOT shorted to ground, and the stator is putting out A/C voltage, then the regulator is bad (most likely even if passed step 2)

Battery will not stay charged


Hi, Anonymous in order to check out any main electrical system, you have to start with a fully charged battery 12.5 volts or better, and be able to pass a load test if necessary. "WARNING" never plug or unplug any electrical connector with the engine running !!!
1. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
2. Check the voltage drop at the battery when you hit the starter button, anything below 9 volts you might have a faulty battery.
3. Check voltage at the battery with the bike running at 3,600 RPM should be 14.3 to 14.7 volts. If you are not getting these numbers, you might have a faulty voltage regulator.
4. Make sure voltage regulator is "GROUNDED" and functioning properly, watch the video below on how to test a voltage regulator.
5. Unplug the connector to the alternator and hook your multimeter leads to the alternator (pin/socket selection does not matter) set the multimeter to AC volts, at an idle the multimeter should read 16 to 20 volts AC. at 2,000 RPM 32 to 40 AC volts, 3,000 RPM 48 to 60 AC volts. If you are not getting these numbers, you may have a faulty rotor, follow step 6
6. Set the multimeter to OHM'S, connect one lead to the alternator (any pin/socket) and the other to a ground, the multimeter should read infinity. Connect both leads to the alternator multimeter should read 0.1 to 0.2 OHM'S. If you are not getting these numbers, you have a bad stator.

Alternator system is not charging the battery when I charge battery it will start and run till its juice runs out will not start back up till I charge it again.

My yamaha r6s charging system is not charging

2006 Yamaha 650 V star wont start


what is your battery voltage? check for loose batter terminals and ground cables. Charge the battery if its low and then see if it will start. once its running test the voltage again. It should put out 13.5-15 volts just off idle. if it doesnt, something is wrong with your charging system.

Why does turning on headlights put car into


what you are experiencing is that due to bad battery cable connection along with a weak to low charge return from the alternator either from a lose belt on the alternator or just being there is not enough return charge voltage going back to the battery area to suffiencently feed to ECM and transmission control voltages to keep the engine computer and the transmission from going into shut down mode from lack of voltage you need to clean and secure all cable connections also check the alternator for sufficent charging ability as well as check the belts for tightness and slipping to insure safe driving

what is the condition of the battery cables you are probably onto something about a ground but i dont think your ground issue is going to be at the batteries you may not have a good ground on the alternator. The next thing I would check is ... the alternator itself do you know that you are getting between 13.6 and 14.2 volts out of the alternator, a under charge or a overcharge condition both are bad for batteries.

I would check alternator output first if it is not within the above range you need to replace it

If the alternator is putting out in the range of 13.6 to 14.2 then you need to look elsewhere... you may have something draing the batteries overtime interior lights, electric brake controller for trailor brakes if equipped sound system if anything is getting power without going through a switched circuit this could also be your cause.

New top end but no compression or very little


Sounds like you have the crank to cam timing incorrect.  Also you may have the valves set too tight.  Dose it pop and sputter?
