My bike starts and runs fine until you put it in gear and let the clutch out then it dies...pull the clutch back in and runs again..is this the neutral safety switch.

You made the switch that turns on and off when your kickstand is down and the look on a bike you have just start your bike to kickstand down and let the clutch out see if it does the same thing you're describing iclean your kickstand this should be like a little pen the part that you push in to make the point, now could be alterity spray that with Goncourt degreaser kickstand

Will go into neutral but will not go into first gear

Assuming you mean with the engine running, you can't go from neutral to first, I sometimes have this problem too.
I'll slowly let out the clutch just a little bit, shifting into 1st as I'm doing so, and it'll drop into gear.
Also, try shifting up into 2nd, then back down to 1st.

If you mean with the engine NOT running, then you have to rock the bike a little either forward or backwards as holding shifter down until gears line up to engage.

Xs650. Have broken gears in my 1971/72 xs650. Can I replace whole transmission with gears selector drum and selectors from a later model into my crankcase

I"m not 100% sure what will or will not fit your bike. One thing I usually do is go to babbittsonline.com and look up your part numbers for your main shaft, counter shaft, bearings, gears, seals, everything basically. Then (and this is a little time consuming but will save you a lot of trouble getting what you need) one by one, you can copy the part numbers and back-page until you get to the screen where you can search individual part #'s. Enter the part # by pasting it in and when it comes up with the description just click the "where used?" button and it will list all the years and models where that part is used.

Time consuming? Yes! Effective? ABSOLUTELY!!!

Xlr 125 wont start do i have to pull the clutch in to start it

You need to put it into neutral in order to start it or pull the clutch and hold it down until started. I would suggest putting it into neutral. Double check that you have it in neutral by trying to push the bike without holding down the clutch when you think you have it in neutral. If the bike rolls easily, then you know its in neutral. If it won't push or seems hard to get it to roll forward then you know its still in gear. Once you have it in neutral (for sure), hold the clutch down and start the bike.

Othen than that, all you have to do is make sure its turned on and it should start. Some bikes use a key to turn it on, others have a throttle control switch. We had Suzuki Quad racers which were 2 stroke - and are a little different.

I bought a mountain bike with Shimano Altus gears over the net with most of the assembly in place. Have indexed the rear gears which work fine. Did the same for the front deraileur works changing up but...

There are a couple of possible problems. You can try backing off the cable tension a little bit at the shifter and running back and forth through the gears adjusting as you go till it hits 2nd coming down. You can also try backing off the High limit screw on the derailleur. This will allow the shift to start a little farther from the bike hopefully hit 2nd. Hope this helps.

Motor cuts out when gear engaged

Make sure you have your stand up before you put it in gear. Some bikes have a stand switch that doesnt allow the bike to be in gear while the stand is down. This switch may have been damaged when the bike fell and now be malfunctioning.

Clutch Adjustment Issues / 78 Yamaha XS 650

Disconnect the clutch cable at the case then see if the there is any resistance in the clutch lever in-out movement. When the tank was remounted the cable may have gotten pinched or moved out of proper routing. If I understand correctly, prior to the frame painting the clutch was okay, but after the paint it was not, and the left and right side cases and clutch were not touched. Obviously you used the wrong brand of paint. The clutch would have been fine if you had used Krylon brand paint. Post a comment and let me know what you find.

False neutral

There is pretty much a false neutral between every gear on an Enfield. You need to ease the gear up or down and do it by feel more than a hard up or down movement
