You may have a weak ignition. If you block the intake by removing the air filter and manually choke it then you will know its not a choke problem. Also if you spray a little quick start or brake cleaner with the choke applied and you still have the same problem then your most likely looking at a weak coil.

It star with hoke on the maximum position only, is i throttle it dies imediatly. WHy ?

The choke setting required for starting is related to the temperature. In cold weather, a full choke is normally needed ; in normal temp (70 degrees F) a moderate choke may be all that is needed. Of course, once the engine starts, you may need to adjust the choke as the engine warms up - when ready to ride, you will want to have zero choke set. Hope this helps !

What position should the choke lever be when starting a cold 1986 Shadow motorcycle?

The rubber cover can be tightened or loosened to hold the choke lever in place. I like to set the rubber cover just tight enough to keep the choke out but if I start driving it starts to slip back in by itself. If you pull the plunger all the way out it will raise the idle and should be the best position for the initial start. You may find you have to touch/ twist the throttle just a teeny bit to get the first pop. Then run full choke for the first 10-20 seconds till the fast idle is steady. Then push in the choke till you have a slower more comfortable fast idle. At 45-60 seconds push the choke in just enough to keep it idling. It should be safe to slow drive with the choke out about a quarter of the way. Take the choke off completely when the bike will idle on it's own 1 to 2 blocks down the road. If the bike is still boggy on take off put enough choke back on to get a smooth take off , then while slowly cruising during warm up push the choke all the way back in. Take it easy till the engine is warm.

Honda 2000 sabre vt1100 has hard time with cold start & if the choke is used at all it floods.

Change the spark plug/s and wire/s. If there is not enough spark, the engine will have a time starting and may flood.

VT1100C2 Shadow Sabre does not readily start when cold, 30-40 degrees, Help. Thanks

You do not state how many miles you have on your bike. Plugs are probly foul by now. Also you don't say if you choke the engine when you start it. Leave the choke pulled until warmed up. Thin push the choke off.

How do i adjust the choke on a 2005 honda shadow
Not to sure about this one, ok, if the choke wont stay out, then try to trace the choke cable to the carby, have a close look and see which parts move on the carby when you activate the choke, some thing just needs to be tightened up, so that the choke stays on. Also, you say the bike stalls and runs rough, is this with the choke on? If yes, then that is just a sign that you dont need so much choke on. Just try half choke. Do you live in a warm climate? if so, then you dont need much choke . So there is no adjustment really, only by the amount of choke you apply. Also remember, never use the choke if the engine is already warm. And, only use the choke for the first start of the day, when the engine is stone cold. The correct way to to start a cold bike engine is, pull the choke on fully, crank over engine, but DO NOT give it throttle, (this defeats the purpose of using the choke), when engine fires up and starts, slowly push the choke in till a smooth, high idle is acheived. You should be able to ride off slowly, and push the choke off after about a mile.

Sounds like the battery may be weak, recharge and test, maybe replace. As far as starting, most Hondas will not start if you open the throttle any at all. Shadows being liquid cooled are generally cold natured, but you should be able to ride away with the choke on in 1 or 2 minutes, you might have to ride as far as 4 or 5 miles at highway speed before you can take the choke fully off. If it is taking longer than these times, you will need to remove and clean the carbs. the low speed jets may be partially blocked up.

I have a new 07 honda vt1100 that cold starts hard

Check the choke opperation is working correctly ,and that nothing is fouling the chock sliders .Theses bikes don't like too much air in first starting .and rel;y on a near neat fuel supply .it could be a case that the choke is not sutting off air supply enough..If you richen the mixture you could cause to much fuel to enter the engine a wash away your oil lubrication .,causeing the engine to over heat ,and in some cases cause valve burn outs .

Will only run in full choke mode

Try a fuel additive to clean the system, also if the airfilter is dirty or damp, this can cause problems.
You may even have a rust problem in the barrels.
Or even the engine oil may have thickened causing a resistance in the crank bearings, so flush the engines oil ways if other solutions don't work.
