Timing belt to get it loosing off


The belt tensioner is a spring loaded plunger mounted at the 8 o'clock position from the passengers side facing the engine. remove it to loosen the belt. to reset the tensioner compress it in a vise,put a pin in the hole through the plunger and sleeve when it is aligned. When you are ready to tighten.the belt pull the pin out.

Hi Steven, All gears and bearings are to be tightened before finally setting the tensioner bearing. Begin alignment from the crankshaft and continue on the non tensioned side of the belt across the cam gears and finally tension the tensioner bearing. Regards John

Cam pulley starting and stopping


If the tension on the belt is correct and the belt is good and cam pulley is not oily or slippery then your cam bearing may have spun

The timing belt on my 1991 suzuki sidekick makes a low pitch squeal, those the tension on the belt have something to do with it?


If the squeal is other than the timing belt, you have major problems, such as bearings, crank bearing, cam bearing or other.

How to change timing belts


There is a small cap on the top left side of the motor . If you take it off you will see the timing marks. To line up the 1 T F mark you will have to rotate the motor. This is done by removing the tappet cover in the center of the magneto on the back left corner of the motor . To rotate the motor insert a 17mm socket on a short breaker bar and turn. If you reach between the radiator an d the engine with a 10 mm wrench you can remove the timing belt covers without draining and removing the radiator. Take off both covers and look at the cam gears each one has a dot that should line up with the arrow on the back cam cover outside most edge. When the Cam arrows and dots line up , and the 1 T F is lined up , then the engine is correctly timed (mechanically speaking). Now loosen the belt tensioners and remove the belts. Check that the tensioner bearings are in good order, if the bearings are bad, replace the tensioner assembly. Put on the new belts, tension them, and double check the timing marks. If the marks do not line up, loosen the tensioner and adjust the belt. Check all the marks before you move anything , rotate gently , and do not force anything or you will be pulling a head off to replace bent valves.

2000 neon, timing belt tensioner. The old tensioner has a steel sleve spacer, the new one dose not. Has anybody had any prblems with that.


not really becaue i rarely change them i remove the seal and repack the bearing with grease ,but if it comes in teh kit for this model then it should be alright because its a copy part not the original so it would infringe copyrights if it was identical

Hi we have a kia sedona 2000year and 2.9 diesel, exec. auto. it came with half the engine in the boot, we have skimed the head and rebuilt it just the new cam belt just wont tighten enough we have fully...


the cam belt should have a little slack in it,, about 1/2 inch over its longest run, its not like a fan belt witch should be tight, but check the idler bearing are not worn out,,and i do hope this is a new belt for this car,,,if your using the old belt,,,dont! fit a new one on it or it could brake on you, and that would be another engine rebuild on your hands,,,

I need to know the timing points


hi from uk the marks i assume are the timing belt marks ?? to st up turn engine to T D C number 1 cyl fire check the cam cog and view the hole in the cg is at top and the vertical line mark on cam bearing cap are lined up along with the crank mark which should line up with the point on engine this mark is approx at 11 o clock position when viewed if not rotate engineanother rev till both marks line up release tensioner (renew it !) fit new belt from crank anticlockwise to cam then round tensioner push tensioner against belt firmly and torque 43-55 Nm turn engine by hand till marks re aligne ok ?check tension ? ok ? torque crank pully bolt 170-180 Nm reassemble engine hope this helps ?

Don't know how adjust belt drive on vrscaw v rod can anyone help 2008 series


MOST HARLEYS IVE SEEN HAVE AN ECCENTRIC ON THE REAR DRIVE AXLE TO MAKE THIS ADJUSTMENT. IF SO, LOOSEN THE AXLE NUT AND ROTATE THE ECCENTRIC TO PROPER TENSION THEN TIGHTEN THE AXLE NUT. RECHECK TENSION AS IT MAY CHANGE DURING TIGHTENING.
