It Won't Start!

A while ago we stopped riding so it's been sitting for forever. I changed the spark plug because it was completely destroyed. The gas had lacquered or crystalized and i took it off washed it out dried it then cleaned out the line going from tank which was caked with this thick thick jelly stuff, then i refilled the oil cause it was out then i bought the spray carb cleaner. i didn't take it off i just pulled the tubes on the side off and sprayed directly into the carb. the choke was stuck but i got it to work but now it wants to stay off like there is pressure in there. the day i did all this it would work but wouldn idle by itself or do anything without the choke or me pulling back on the throttle all the way i could get it going for about ten-fifteen secs and then it's go out and if i wasn't being kicked fuel would run out. day after i tried to kick it and nothing is happening at all now couple times with me having to hold the choke down it'd sputter but i'm lost i don't know what to do and i don't want to take it somewhere.

Hi you will need to remove the carb and clean it completely, pull all the jets out and blow through them, the jets are small but you should be able to see through them, you will also need to remove the fuel tap from the tank and clean it out. If you pull the air screw out, make sure you screw it all the way in first and count the turns .count every 1\4 of a turn.

My MTD Yard machines riding mower won't start.

Probably dead gas from sitting too long. Dump it out & put in fresh gas.Could have moisture in it. Pull out spark plug & crank it over several times after putting gas & let it sit a while to dry out or blow it out with compressed air. It should go.

2001 ford taurus with the 3.0 after sitting a few hours when i go to start will crank and crank and crank for what seems like ever, will start easily after that but when i go to start it for the first time...

Its not the oil, increasing temperature will thin out the oil. If it cranks easily but won't start it could be the spark plugs or the spark plug wires. When they heat up, especially if they are old, they won't perform well. Pull off one of the wires and hold it close to the plug, try to crank the engine and look for a spark. If it sparks them try removing a plug and check to see if it looks wet. If its bone dry it might not be getting fuel.

Bought this lawn mower. It was sitting for two years and now it won't start.

first things first:
1) make sure that the kill for the magneto/coil is breaking contact( it is on the side of the mower, follow the cable down from the red bar)
2) gas to carburetor
3) spark to plug/s
4) gas to cylinder/s

pull plug and try starting mower, observe spark plug for spark and fuel coming out of cylinder/s. if spark no gas, then check to see if it getting to the carburetor, if it is then it is the float and seat in the carburetor and will need to be cleaned/replaced/rebuilt. Or just simple pour gas into the carburetor and try starting if it starts then it is the fuel line, carburetor. Hope this helped Tim

I have trouble getting my troybilt riding mower to start. I have to turn the engine over forever to get it to fire. Sometimes I have to spray starting fluid in the carb to get it to fire. I have changed...

It sounds like your choke is not adjusted correctly. Remove the air filter and do a visual check to make sure the choke is actually closing when it is applied. If not you can adjust the cable, that should solve the problem.

Hope this helps

90Cadillac Brougham has been sitting

Replace all your fluids including the gas. Even if the gas looks good it can still be bad and will make the car run horrible. Oil needs to be changed just sitting everything has broken down same with tranny fluid. Change the tires and check the suspension and the shocks. Very nice car though. Just do the normal maintance on it. Filter, oil, tranny fluid, spark plugs, tires normal

My lawn mower doesn't start and when it does, smoke comes out of exhaust

you may need to change the oil and/or empty the old gas and replace it with new.

This thing happens when you don't take care of your lawn mower for too long.
