To replace the steering head bearings, you should do both the top, and bottom ones. It's quiet a big job, but very simple. first support the bike so the front wheel is well of the ground,, then remove the brake callipers,, then remove the front mudgaurd,, then the wheel,, the fork clamps need to be loosened, so you can remove each fork leg,, then you are left with what is called the 'tripple tree'. Loosen the bolt on the top, and mabey a clamp bolt as well. Then the bottom of the tripple tree will come out the bottom. You may have to undo a few more things, like speedo and tacho wires and such. Just take your time, watch how it all comes apart. Your new bearings will be a sealed unit, and easy to put in. As for your other problem, im not sure? sounds like your headlight is draining power. Check voltage output at battery with headlight on, and engine running at idle. Voltage should be about 12.5 to 14 volts. Could be battery problem, or charging system problem. Hope this helps.
