Question about Harley Davidson FLSTF - FLSTFI Fat Boy Motorcycles

1 Answer

I own a 94 harley fatboy. When I bought it, the signal lights had been removed during customization. I have re-installed them with new controls, lights, etc. I have carefully followed the wiring diagrams. All lights work. When I push the left and right signal light control swithes together, the emergency flashers work perfectly, with all 4 signal lights flashing on and off until I cancel them by depressing the two switches again. However, when I push just the right or just the left switch, the right or left signal lights come on, but do not flash. I replaced the turn signal control module, thinking that might be the problem, but the new module works exactly the same as the old one, so that is not the problem. I am wondering about a faulty relay but do not see one on the wiring diagram. Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. The indicators on the front are LED (signal light mirrors actually), while the indicators on the rear are bulbs. Does this mean that I will need some kind of converter to attach to the LED's on the front? Also, if it is a wattage/voltage issue, I am not sure why the emergency flashers all work fine (blinking on and off) when both switches are depressed at the same time. Wouldn't the same problem happen? I look forward to your reply.

Unfortunately, I don't have the original indicators, as the bike was already customized when I purchased it. I have a buddy with some bike parts, so I might just try some regular bulb style indicators if he has some old ones hanging around to give it a try. I might also just disconnect the front ones and see if the rear ones will work on their own. Thanks.

This is a very familiar case when you customise indicators but the flash speed normally flashes at a different speed. That is a problem which is solved by placing the exact bulbs with same wattage and voltage.Hook up the old indicator to the same circuit and see if it flashes fine this time.If it does then there is no other faults but you just need to replace the bulbs. Now if this does not solve your problem then you move on to the next step.Hope this helps.

Now this is a bit of physics but I wont go into details..When you hooked all 4, that is the hazard light then it will flash as the resistance in the circuit is higher. So in other sense the flasher unit is not faulty. Just connect the 4 originals indicators to the circuit without physically removing the actual ones. Test and see if it works fine.If it does then you need to work some way around with the bulbs.

It will not work if you disconnect the front ones. You need a pair in connection while you test one side flashing sequence.

My Harley 2005 fatboy brake light and signals stopped working checked the fuses could it be the ignition switch

Hi, Anonymous the brake light could be a faulty tail light bulb or brake light switch or a wiring issue, the turn signals could be a turn signal module or rear fender tail light wiring harness connector or damaged harness under the fender from the rear wheel rubbing for this scenario you will need a service/owners manual that has a wiring diagram if you can not find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Harley, despair not, for a mere $10 you can download another one. Wiring diagram 1992 fatboy

Hi Anonymous, always check fuses and bulbs first, you could have a faulty turn signal module or a bad turn signal button/switch, remove it from the switch housing and check for continuity, check your wiring and connections from the turn signal switch to the turn signal module with a test light. Make sure all wires are not worn or pinched and connector pins are not corroded, broken, or loose. For a free wiring diagram, please visit the website below. Good luck and have nice day.
