Question about 1999 Suzuki GSX 1300 R Hayabusa

1 Answer

Suzuki Hayabusa overfueling/backfiring

Suzuki Hayabusa (1999 model) seems to be over fueling and back firing. It was running rough until 3,000 revs then it would take off and now runs rough all the time. It has put petrol into the oil. Its only done 15,000 miles, new plugs didn't make any difference. Have tried a new fuel pump with no sucess.

Sounds like water in the gas. ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors.
For each carb > Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side or bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb.
Put the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

SOURCE: 93 Suzuki Katana GSX 600 fuel issues?

You need to check and see if you are getting fuel from the tank into your carbs, if you pull the line that feeds the petcock valve off the top gas should come out. If it doesnt there is a clog in your tank. Now pull the line off the bottom of the petcock valve (this feeds your carbs) and make sure you have fuel at all setting of the petcock valve except for off. If you dont then you probably have a bad petcock valve. If you are getting fuel from the petcock vavle into you carbs then there is a problem with your carbs.

If you take the fuel bowl drain screw out of the carb (located on the bottom). Gas should run out of the associated carb, if it doesn't, then you have something stuck in the carb and one carb not working correctly can make the bike not run. If you find this to be the problem get a can of carb cleaner, take the fuel bowl drain screw out and let the gas run out, stick the red spray wand from the can of cleaner into the hole and flush your carbs out really good.

Then give it a try. Make sure that the connection between your carbs and head is tight while you are there. If that does not fix your problem you may ahve to pull the carbs and take a closer look.

I had the same thing, it was a carburetor problem. I just took it to a mechanic. Make sure your plug is the resistor type because mine was not and that was what caused the problem

I have a 1999 busa all is running well. i am looking for more power can i put bigger injectors in

Hi, Lyn I am truly sorry that 175 ponies doesn't tie your sneakers, however, there are ways to guarantee your next speeding ticket the usual basics are performance cam, larger injectors, free flow air cleaner, performance exhaust, and a fuel tuner if necessary or you could trade it in for a 2008 or later Busa for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. surely the bike is fuel injected, which might mean the fuel pump is playing up , which could be a pressure sensor in the system, you might need to get the computor scanned to see whats faulty

2000 model 500 suzuki quadmaster backfires, wont rev up.

unusual, would normally say air filter but thats new. theres no restriction on fuel is there from fuel tap. so it runs out and slowly fills, time you check its got fuel again. is there a breather into tank blockedi has it once on a bike that used exhaust paste. the person had put too much in and it blocked the exhaust.

My 2003 suzuki vl 800 misses real bad and it wont stay started without the choke being out. Could it be a spark plug or what

hi normaly this indicates a fuel problem, as the machine wont run properly without the choke you poss have a blocked jet in the carb or something, when you put the choke on the fuel is then pulled up, as the choke flap has closed of the air flow the natural thing is the vachume will pull up exsess fuel, this is fine until your engine becomes hot then the engine will start to run rough as a result of the overfueling, with respect of the spark plug if the engine runs the chances are the plug is fine, however overfueling will eventualy contaminate the plugs causing poor starting, with extreme care feel the exhaust pire from each cylinder where it comes out of the cylinder head, if it is hot then the spark plug is working just to reiterate you must ware a heat proof glove or wait till the engine has cooled down a bit before placing your hand near to the exhaust to avoid severe burns.

Backfire during shifting between gears

could be few probs, carbon build up on piston crown try a good cleaner fuel additive, your exaust is leaking or blowing allowing air to be sucked back in on revdown as well as you could have a inlet fault overfueling leaving to much unburnt fuel to enter your exaust, might be simple fix by just replacing the air filter and checking for burn marks around the air intake.
