Presuming you've checked the fuses & that the engine spins when the starter is pressed :-
Check for a spark on each cylinder by removing the spark plugs - cleaning if necessary - re-install into plug caps & lay each on the cylinder head so that all have the metal part touching.
Check that the coils are wired correctly - black & red to 1:4, green & red to 2:3
Turn engine over.
If no spark at any then check that there is 12 volts between each red wire & earth, if not check for power & continuity across the kill switch, if not then check for power from starter relay (black /red), if not then check the side-stand,clutch & neutral switches are all working (if all 3 OK then suspect the starter relay)
If there is a spark & coils are wired right then suspect a fuel problem

I hope this helps
if not

Hi the battery should have at least 12.6 volts across it with no load.
Cranking voltage should be over 11 volts
    Charging rate 14 -15 volts

Do not take measurements at the coil primaries, the wires go straight to the CDI unit which can easily be damaged, the induced voltage in the coil can reach 300 volts (on firing), & CDI's are very expensive
Best to check cranking voltage across battery,
    Yuasa state :-
Cold cranking = Current in Amps at which the voltage is 7.2 volts at -18c after 30 seconds
So it all depends, but it shouldn't go below 7.2 volts at 'brass monkey' temperatures
But most CDI's need 12 volts to work

Where is this weak spark ? Across the spark plug electrodes - these can be dirty right up inside or the spark can track down the outside !
Take 1 plug cap off hold the lead with insulated pliers or similar & watch the spark jump up to 7mm for the ZR750

    I hope this helps

The weak spark was on the sparkplug, but they are new. Could the starter worned out so that i have to change some bearing so that it workes more easy?

  • steve May 12, 2010

As long as the engine spins rapidly with starter engaged it is OK
If the engine turns sluggishly then all the power is probably going to the starter motor
If so it needs stripping, cleaning & greasing & probably new brushes
If the plugs are blackened then this will cause a weak spark

Hi, the spark jumped with no problem 8mm with the sparkplugg cap removed. Then i messured it and the resistance was over 1 M ohm

  • mikaelljungw May 15, 2010

What should the ohm be on a sparkplugg cap?

  • steve May 17, 2010

Plastic spark plug caps have a resistance of about 15,000 ohms

fuel empty > starter switch forgotten > tank airiation > tankfilter > nozzle >leaking gaskets> flotterchamber > pearl in sparkplug lost compression by a wrong L+H adjustment , > lost compression , unmount the muffler and look if the piston you see has no grooves on it and is smooth like a mirror > look for a blue spark in the sparkplug if not replace bougie > replace ignition coil (if that happend then you must ask for an ignitioncoil by reporting the engine number and year of manufacture is different, and if you are not asked for this by dealer in many cases you get it for the wrong year of build . modifications has oft modification has often been prematurely

I would go with the one under the hood because the owners manual is generic for all models for that year while the one under the hood is for your model.

White smoke from ignitioncoil

and it still was working. When i got home i started the gasser several times trying to find a problem when suddenly white smoke came out of the ignitioncoil. Changed the sparkplug and the ignitioncoil did find that it's the same ignitioncoil as in Volkswagen golf from year -00 !!!! Of course the gasser still don't run as i don't get any spark Now some ideas anyone ? Is the coil the right one ? How to measure the electrical system ? Thanx for any help at allSorry to hear that your beast is offline, but problems are there to be solved. Does your fuel pump run when ignition is turned on? If not, try switching the two relays under the right side panel. I assume your starter is crankin the engine, that would at least indicate that the main fuse is all right. If not, the fuse is located inside the starter relay. Are you familiar with reading an electric schematic? There is a good schematic in the user manual. If not, your welcome to call me, Anders. You'll find my number through Eniro.,,,

Ignition problem with sparking at sparkplug#2. ignitioncoil replaced twice but still the same problem.

Have you checked or replaced the ignition leads?

They can be checked with a cheap multimeter on the Ohms (ω) scale set to accommodate 20,000 Ohms.
If the leads are OK, they will measure between 6,000-15,000 Ohms.
If you don't get a reading in that neighborhood, the leads are bad.
