its fuel injected and mine does the same thing for backfiring. as for half throttle. you closed the choke after it warms up. and might need to check the air cleaner maybe the plugs need to be changed. not sure.

Fix yz 450 backfiring

Hi, Anonymous popping or backfiring on deceleration is usually caused by a lean fuel condition or an air leak in the exhaust system and is generally located where black carbon soot is seen as a flashing build up from any joint connection. This condition can easily be remedied by removing and cleaning both joint pieces and reassembling with high temp silicone and torquing the exhaust clamp to the proper spec. Coughing is usually caused by an air leak in the intake system and will generally have the same telltale signs, a wet or damp buildup of oil/gas seepage at the intake manifold to cylinder head or carburetor to intake manifold connection and in rare instances a worn throttle plate shaft and or seals. Spitting is usually caused by a faulty accelerator pump and or nozzle, or the float bowl needle and seat leaking and overflowing through the main jet mixing well nozzle, or the air-fuel mixture screw is adjusted too lean. Backfire

I have had this issue before. The problem is that you don't have enough back pressure. which is basically how much pressure it takes for the exhaust to exit the pipe. what you would need to do is add baffling the plates and tubes in the end of the pipe to add back pressure.

Backfires at decelaration, and popping at steady pace of travel

Hi, the most common cause of this is an air leak into the exhaust system, check the header pipe gaskets and any other joins in the exhaust system. Another cause can be damaged valves and seats usually caused by not cleaning the valley before removing spark plugs, small stones then fall into the combustion chamber causing the damage. Hope this helps, cheers.

I have a 1999 royal star venture & it backfires only on decelaration !

Usally nothing to worry about. Some after market mufflers will cause it to do this. I had a Triumph 900 that back fired and crackled when i decelerate, i had staintune mufflers on it.
Check the color of your spark plugs for signs of running rich or lean.
