Were looking for information on the charging system on a 1971 yamaha 500 cc 8 valve engine

The 8 valve wasn't introduced until 1973. The TX500A ('73-74) TX500B (74-75)
The XS500 continued from 1976.
There is a number somewhere on the crankcases, the first three digits should be 371 if it is the first model TX500A 1973. The site below will give you the model of the engine by referencing these first three digits if it differs.

Engine floods after engine heats up after being


Hi, Bradley_euge and the usual suspects are:
1. Dirt or other foreign matter between float valve and its seat.
2. Float valve sticking.
3. Float valve and/or valve seat worn or damaged.
4. Float misadjusted.
5. Float cracked, leaky or damaged.
6. Excessive "PUMPING" of hand throttle grip.
