What is it..

Hi Gareth take the exhaust off and look up into the cylinder if the piston is black and scored you might get away with a top end rebuild. When it's striped down you can check the crank and bearings. Good luck.

Crankshaft second hand

BAD IDEA ! Never ever put a used crankshaft and bearings in a car, these will wear to "fit" the engine they are installed in, and will only cause you to rebuild/remove your engine again. Get a new crank and bearings.

Replace crankshaft bearings on 1999 ford expedition

v6 have 4 main bearing sets and 6 big end bearing sets
v8 have 5 main bearing sets and 8 bigend sets
5 cylinder inline will have 6 main bearing sets and 5 big end set
It appears that some where you are short a set of bearings Check that the rebuild kit is for your engine

The piece that turns my belt broke what is that

The part that turns your belt is the crankshaft and crankshaft pulley. If you are right about the crankshaft being broken, then your engine will need rebuilt. But in most cases it is cheaper to buy a rebuilt engine from one of the professional rebuilders. Check with you local auto parts stores and they will be able to advise you on the best rebuilder to use.

TRYING TO REMOVE GENERATOR, SO THATI CAN REBUILD ENGINE. How do I do that?

remove rear cover on the generator and loosen the center bolt a few turns then carefully give the bolt a hard center rap with a large hammer ...you should feel the taper release from the engine crankshaft and then the rest should be easy to see how it comes apart...I looked online and couldn't find a good illustraded parts list for your model so this is the best info I can give.

Pull armature on generator from engine

Put the armature thru bolt in and back off about two turns. Smack the thru bolt hard with a hammer and the armature will release from the tapered crankshaft. You may damage the thru bolt. If so either get a new one or use a piece of all thread and a nut.

How to overhaul an engine?

TO OVERHAUL ENGINE YOU HAVE TO REPLACE ALL WORN PARTS.LIKE VALVES + SEATS+ GUIDES.+ SEALS. ALSO YOU HAVE TO REPLACE CAMSHAFT AND GEAR+ LIFTERS NEW CAM BEARINGS.NEW OIL GALLORY PLUGS AND FREEZE PLUGS.THE CYLINDER BLOCK HAS TO REBORED BEFORE INSTALLING.NEW PISTONS + RINGS+ CRANKSHAFT AND BEARING HAS TO BE REPLACED.ALSO OIL PUMP TIMING CHAIN.AND CRANKSHAFT GEAR.IT WOULD BE A WHOLE LOT CHEAPER TO BUY REBUILT ENGINE THEN TO REBUILD.BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO HAVE A LOT OF EXPENSIVE TOOLS AND HIGHLY SKILLED TO REBUILD ENGINE.ITS NOT A EASY JOB.

Engine rebuilding

If you can't find specs on this in a rebuild manual, you will need a dial indicator. find tdc on crankshaft, with #1 piston at top of stroke. Find exact point where #1cyl intake lobe on cam is 180 degrees from full open position. It is likely that you will find that there are alignment markings that will line up with reference points on block & head after you do this. The cam reference may be off by a couple of degrees, depending upon if the cam is intended to be installed "straight up" or a few degrees advanced.
