None of these models have a center stand? Seems odd that this only happens when leaning hard left and handeling is not effected in any way. I will get to a buddy with a bike jack and check it ASAP and let you know. I am riding about 2600 miles in a couple of weeks and need to check it out. I will report back.

Not swing arm. Not rear bearings. Not tires. Not drive shaft splines.??????

  • cmcoxman Jun 03, 2010

It was the front tire itself. Not a balance issue. Tire had developed very minor chatter or flat spots on the side. Heavy breaking??????????

Check your swing arms bushings for improper wear.

Basically, put her up on the center stand and give the rear swing arm a little left to right wiggle and look at the swingarm mount.

Let me know what you find.

Good God I am getting old!

I still remember when ALL the bigger bikes had center stands.

Your bushing gets long long periods leaning left so I would say that portion of the bushings rubber gets the lions share of long term deformation.

Think about it this way too. When you go hard left all the bikes downforce acts on the swingarm bushing from the right side down to the left. like a cup perched on a broomstick end. If their is freeplay on the left side of the bushing it would allow it wobble free. Normally gravity would hide this wear because riding upright is putting downforce on both sides of the bushing. Not at all like when it sits leaning left on the kickstand.

    Thanks for keeping me posted.

Ok. You ruled out the big stuff.

How about rebalancing the rear tire and while the tire is off check the rear shock mounts and the shocks themselves.

specifically look for weak dampening. Hey! If the shocks work on both sides how about swapping them once and see if the problem changes sides?

    Keep me posted. Thanks!

Vibrating bike

if the plug is white you are running lean.
plug should be tan to medium brown.
lean will cause rough idle, and popping on deceleration.
resolve = clean idle jet, circuit, and set mixture screw properly.
A job like this should really be left to a professional on that bike.

Do you need to rejet after removing baffles from exhaust on a 1997 honda shadow 1100 ace?

Yes, once you remove the baffles this reduces the back pressure hence clearing the engine cylinders more quickly, this means a leaner fuel mixture, go up maybe 2 sizes, run the bike and just check the performance or even easier maybe dyno tune.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or have an improper gap or are partially fouled.

3. Battery damaged or nearly discharged, should have 12.5 volts.
4. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
6. Water or dirt in the fuel system.
7. Water or dirt in the carburetor.
8. Intake air leak.
9. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricting fuel flow.
10. Enricher valve inoperative.
11. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).
12. Ignition is not functioning properly (possible sensor failure).
13. Faulty ignition coil.
14. Valves sticking.

2006 HONDA SHADOW SABRE - front brake is making a slight grinding sound anytime the bike leans left. No problems going straight or leaning right. Thoughts?

  • Wheel bearings going bad
  • Axle and or bearings need grease
  • Loose nut on the axle
  • Caliper not bolted on tight
  • Rotor mounting bolts not tight
Can I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer?
