Question about Honda CB 750 Motorcycles

I have Honda cb750f supersport when I hook up the neg cable to the battery the bike begins to crank it did this until I pulled the starter cover and tapped on the starter and it seems fine now this problem started after the starter solenoid shorted out is this starter some kind of a magnetic starter to where the starter could not have released

Start function is actuated by the start solenoid, that means that the signal is coming from it to start.(make sure its not the one that was damaged in a short) and that it is not getting the start signal from the start button(even if you are not pressing it)If there was a short be sure it is cleaned up completely.How did it short? if you know you can fix it easy, if not you need to find what caused it.

You still have some problem with the start solenoid, the starter should not get any power until the solenoid is activated, perhaps the start button is stuck or shorted, which caused the inital solenoid failure

Hi, Arleen before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

I replaced the battery terminal cable ends. Now the car will not start, There is a clicking noise from the starter.


Bad connection on cable ends or where they connect to battery. Quick check is if you have a good set of jumper cables, use the jumper cable as a replacement for what maybe the defective one. Hook negative cable good to battery neg. post and then put other side on neg cable to engine ground on block. See if it cranks, if it does than the trouble is on the neg. cable. If not then put positive cable on pos. post of battery. Then put other side of pos. cable on the starter post, try to start. If it cranks then the trouble is on the pos side of cable. Hope this helps.

Unable to figure out how to remove negative battery cable from starter


The negative of a vehicle goes to the chassis (ground) the positive goes through the solenoid to the starter. The smaller wire comes from the ignition. The starter has no ground wire since the case of the starter is bolted to the engine block to make it's negative connection. I always remove the starter and using emery cloth i clean the bolts and wherever the bolts touch. I also clean where the starter presses against the engine block. This is to ensure that the connection is tarnish and oil-free. Remove the ground cable from the battery before beginning to remove the starter.

Does the neg. battery cable hook to the starter on a 1996 mercury villager? or some where else?


Yes the neg cable is grounded at the starter bolts and also at the frame.
Do you have power coming from the starter relay down to the starter solenoid with the key switch in the start position ?
Do you have headlights when you try to crank the engine ?
Have you tried cranking it in neutral ?

I have a 1988 honda shadow 1100,Ijust bought a new battery and it is charged up,go to start it it wont start until i hook cables from my car and then it starts right up..It does crank over without car...


Hmm, this can be starter brushes. Engine needs lot of electric power for starter and plugs. If starter is bad, it takes all power and nothing left for plugs and you can"t start the bike.

I crossed the pos and neg terminals while jump starting my bike and now nothing happens when the key is turned on. What happened?


You have probably killed the battery and all the electronics on the bike. Get the bike checked by a qualified bike technician/electrician.

When i go to crank my car it spins and one time it would'nt get no gas


if the starter is spinning, it needs replacing, if you remove it you can have it bench checked at any auto parts store or you can do it yourself , if you have jumper cables, hook them to the battery , red to pos + black to neg - , hook the neg clamp to the base of the starter,, ( the case ) and tap the red + to the place that the battery cable attaches to the battery , its going to jump so hold it down,, make sure the gear inside pushes all the way out, if it doesn't , replace the starter,,

After motor work starter runs when power applied


sounds like starter solenoid is staying energized sending continued power to starter. need to make sure you plugged the right wire from the starter button and not another hot wire w/ fulltime hot. also if thats ok need to test for power turning off to solenoid when releasing button. if thats ok try tapping on solenoid. lastly, make sure your positive cable from battery is hooked to starter solenoid, then another hot cable(longer) hooks from solenoid to starter, if you hook long hot cable directly from starter to battery, starter will continueous spin.

Hi, I bought the Stunner CBF bike 4 years ago. It Hi, I bought the Stunner CBF bike 4 years ago. It was fine up to 40,000 kms. And after 40,000 kms its starts to smoking. So i replaced the ring and piston with original parts but it didn't work well and still smoking and again the technician open the bike and they said that it is the piston problem and they said that it should be replaced but not with the original parts and they replaced the ring and piston with 50mm size of Mahal brand. I have replaced all the parts like ring, piston, valve and other supporting parts but still my bike smoking when i accelerate above 60km/h. When i ride bikes in hilly areas with my friends behind then pick up is very less and its bikes smokes blue. My silencer gets wet and when the bike cool down then the silencer gets dry. When i check the engine oil it is fine up to mark of the leveler. So i am confuse what is the problem. For 8 to 10 times i used Sarvo, Enoc and Zic engine oil. Now i am using Honda engine oil in a gray bottle pack. The technician said that the parts of honda is not good enough as before. These are all made in china so that the problem occurs. So that they replace the Mahal brand ring and piston. Now my bikes traveled nearly 50,000 kms (49,800 kms). And one thing i didn't give my bike to the showroom for the replacement of ring and piston. I gave it to the reputed technician in town. I think this time i will get proper answer for my problem. Thanks
