The oil in the crankcase creaps up on the inside of the engine when set on the side stand.(usually the left side smokes) Try parking on center stand.lots of older bikes do this.

Suzuki samari JX 1987 engine miss.

Headgasket is blown between those 2 cylinders. Do a compression check on all cylinders probably between 150 - 180 lbs in good condition. Adjacent cylinders will be nil. If there is some pressure, say 50 lbs, check the valve clearances on all cylinders.

Need the compression specs for a 1983 Honda Shadow VT500C

165 pounds per cylinder. It can be a little less since the motor is not new anymore. As long as they are with in 10 pds of each-other. Anything less then 125 pounds per cylinder, then its time to rebore 1 size over.

good engine condition 155 lbs/sq inch to 165 lbs/sq inch( dry)

1988 suzuki samurai . checked compression # 1 180 # 2 140 #3 180 #4 180. #4 plug was gummed up. Engine sounds good.could it be valve stem seals or head gasket.Has 2 barrel carb.and header smokes bad

the compression is not bad however #2 is a bit low. what did the plug look like on #4. was it oily in appearance or chalky white. if it has an oily appearance then that cylinder is burning oil. it could be valve seals or valve guide clearance is too much or oil rings for that cylinder. the other colour is carbon meaning the cylinder is not burning properly. could be a weak ignition component that affects that cylinder or the cylinder has a lot of carbon build up in it. if it was white in colour then your burning coolant. not sure what you mean by header smokes bad, do you mean at the head if so then you may have something leaking onto it and its burning off.

Check into a set of stage 3 jets, you will need to take the bike to a bike shop to have them put in as well as have the carbs resinked afterwards.

Computer diagnosed o2 sensor, but problem is worse since changing, engine reves for about 1/4 mile before shifting

Check the transmission. The O2 was a problem but wasn't the root cause of teh problem. Also check the compression on all cylinders to make sure it is within 10 to 15 lbs of compression on each cylinder. ie If you have 135 psi on cylinder 1 all the cylinders should be between 125 and 150 psi. Extremely high or low psi on anyone cylinder when compared to the rest will cause this problem. You have described a situation where the motor is only running on 3 cylinders in a 4 cylinder motor or 4 to 5 cylinders in a 6 cylinder motor. The higher RPM is needed to get the same speed and result as a lower rpm in a motor using all cylinders on the motor.

My 2002 suzuki xl7 smokes when I start it.

If its when you start it cold its probably valve stem seals,as the oil runs through them overnight and dumps in the cylinders when you start it cold and it smokes,if its smoking when hot or warm and when you rev it its probably piston rings, you didnt say how many miles are on the car, even try thicker oil and a new filter to help

Compression test on a gsx1100 suzuki katana

about 125lbs on all cylinders.  You should be more concerned with consistency than actual pounds per inch.  Also a compression test should be done with the engine hot.  If it's low squirt a little oil in each  cylinder (re-crank the engine) and if the compression increases the rings are bad, if it doesn't the valves are bad
