Question about 2008 Honda CBR 600 RR
Take off oil cap an smell it. if it smells like fuel or a burnt smell (caused by the clutch) then change it. and you might want to change the friction plates out on the clutch, all other clutch components should be o.k. Also if it looks milkybrown this is not good, you might have a blown gasket.
it should look brownish black not pure black! if black change it..
you check oil level on all bikes in an upright position.. using a sight gauge or dip stick...with dip stick you just unscrew, wipe, drop it in, pull back out, and never fill it up all the way, only 3/4. This will prevent accidental overfill which will cause internal engine component damage.
most all bike take 3 qts, a little more like .2 to .5 extra with filter change, pour in 2 and 1/2 quarts turn on engine for 30 sec and turn off. Then let it sit for a minute to insure new filter absorbs the oil, now fill slowly to 3/4 position, install cap, and go for a ride, get oil hot, and then recheck level, then fill it up full if you like ..but i never do. older bikes should stick with 10w40, but the newer bikes can get away with the newer synthetics with minimal clutch slippage. if you are going to use synthetics i"d put in Barnet Racing clutch "friction" plates, and stiffer springs i did this and boy what a difference..one thing though that you will notice after you do this.. "and its normal", is that you'll have clutch creap, this is because the clutch is a lot tighter and just wants to go! once you use the clutch more it will start to go away a little.
Sorry getting off "track" , now then, use a detergent multigrade 20w50 oil and your good to go. hope this was helpful!
