Question about 1996 Suzuki VS 1400 Intruder

1 Answer

I have a 1994 Suzuki Intruder 800. I bought it new and ridden it for years but every year I have had too buy new battery. It will not hold a charge and seems to drag when trying to start regardless of temp or how often I ride. The starter is the same on the 700 as my 800..Is this the issue? Mechanics around here say "nothing wrong with it" however, my husbands 700 turns over like a top, never loses charge and replaced battery once -tired of not being able to jump on and take off! Any insight?

It's possible the voltage regulator output is too high and boiling all the fluid out of the battery. Do you have to add fluid to the battery at all? Have you done a volt output test of your alternator?

Testimonial: "thank you for replying. No, never had to replace fluid..I took it to the shop today and the mechanic immediate thoughts were a bad armature in the starter(?) I will let you know if you were correct tho later."

I have a 2000 suzuki intruder 1500 lc, battery just went dead and turns over very slow and then dies, I just bought a new battery today and the went dead after riding for a few minutes, once again it turns...

Sounds like you have a bad stator or rectifier. If you like to work on your own bike get a repair manual it will give you several test you can do. Charge the battery to full charge, take a volt meter and put in on the battery leads pos to plus and neg to ground. start the bike and watch the meter it should be putting out over 13 volts if it is not have your rectifier and stator checked by a pro. also check the compression valve cable it may be out of adjustment . I had one of those bike for 13 years a great bike

My '94 suzukii intruder 800 has its ground wire wielded on the battery can u go and cut the ground wire and buy a new battery and a new ground wire.

I would cut the ground wire and put a wire terminal end on it to attach it to the battery using the bolt on the ground post. That way if you have to replace the battery in the future or on a road trip you can do it by just unbolting the battery at the posts.

Bought 1994 Suzuki Intruder 1400. Had sat for 2 years. Put new battery in and now it just tries to start, but won't. Removed plugs and they looked new, but bone dry. Shouldn't they have been wet from...

it sits for 2 years so you have to general check and clean everything, first replace the battery, spark plugs oil filter(if any) have your oil change, clean and balance your carburator and air cleaner, remove your gas tank empty it and clean use new gas, if you can spray an WD40 on all wiring socket then start the bike

Suzuki 1400 intruder wont start.. just clicking noise.

It's most likely the connection to the battery. The screws dont tighten in well and you get the famous clicking....I replaced the stock philips screws with a hex bolt and after two years of trying to solve the problen have been starting everytime for the past year no problems. Another gie away is the intermitant starting problem gets worse when wet.

Battery does not hold charge new battery fitted

Sounds like a charging issue. First check all wires and make sure they are clean and making good contact, then check for proper voltage at the battery. I ride a harly so I don't know the exact voltage to look for but it most likly is around 13V at the battery if it isn't you need to look at your voltage regulator and stator.

Battery removel for a 2004 suzuki 800 intruder

I know for the models till 2002 where the battery is located in front of the rear wheel.

Place the bike on her side stand
remove the negative battery lead at the left side, just below the transmission tube ( cone ) 10mm socket wrench
On the right side remove the security cap on the positive lead ( cross screwdriver ), then remove the positive lead.
The battery is hold in place with a 'floor plate'. remove both bolts of the floorplate ( on each side ) while holding the palte into place.
gently lower the plate and the battery.

I hope the 2004 model has the same assembly!
