Question about 2004 Suzuki DR-Z 125 L

How do you adjust the valves? i just bought the bike and the lock nut for the intake valve adjustment is missing. is it nesessary for m eto remove the valve cover and find it?

Oh you just have to do that if your lucky and it did not find its way down the cam chain galley.

What is the proper procedure for adjusting the intake and exhaust vales


You have to pull the rear (muffler end) cover, rear muffler protector (the metal vent), the rear handle, the lower end plate, and the fiber muffler protector so you have access to the head cover. Remove the head cover, disconnecting the breather tube as you do it.
Turn the engine (using pull handle) to top dead center compression (both valves fully closed). Use feeler gauge to check the valve clearance between the rocker arm and the valve stem.
Intake should be .15mm +/- .02mm (.006in +/- .001)
Exhaust should be .20mm +/- .02mm (.008in +/- .001)
Adjust as needed by loosening the rocker arm pivot locking nut and adjusting the rocker arm pivot. Tighten the locking nut once set.
Put it all back together. :)

How to adjust valves on Toyota 1991 23re engine


Very carefully my friend. Kidding. Ok, remove the valve cover and anything in your way of removing it. By hand, with a socket and ratchet, on the crankshaft bolt head, turn the engine over to get #1 piston to top dead center on compression stroke. You'll need to find out what the valve lash should be in order to adjust properly, I run the 22R engines and only have specs for that, and have a feeler gage to place between the valve head and rocker arm. Check the gap on the intake valve for it is in position to adjust now because the cam lobe is at the farthest away from the valve. If it needs adjusted closer, turn the nut loose and screw the center in to tighten and out to give more gap, then tighten the jam nut after adjusted. Now turn the crank to bring #3 to top dead center and adjust that intake. Once done go back to #1 exhaust and adjust it. You'll know when the #3 is TDC when the rocker is loose on intake valve along with #1 exhaust. Now bring #4 piston up to TDC and adjust intake valve. Like I said, you'll know when it's @TDC when that rocker is loose, but with the spark plugs out you can stick a screwdriver in the plug hole to be sure it's up. Firing order on 4 cylinders is 1-3-4-2 so do your adjustment in that order for each intake valve and go back to the last one adjusted and do the exhaust valve.

If your engine is an overhead valve Briggs. You need to:
Remove valve cover
Locate rocker arms. Upper is exhaust, Lower is intake.
Loosen the lock screw in the center of the adjusting nut.
With engine at TDC and both valves closed adjust both valves by turning the adjusting nut to obtain proper clearance. Once set, tighten the center lock screw.
Valve adjustment specifications vary from model to model. Would need more engine information to get you that or it can be found online.
Reinstall valve cover, make sure gasket did not get damaged.
Adjust valves on a "cold" engine.

Procedure of tappet adjustment


make sure engine is warmed up. Put cylinder one at top dead center,remove the valve cover,loosen all adjustment lock nuts,adust intake and exhaust valves on cyl #1 and intake valve on #2 and exhaust valve on #3. now rotate crankshaft 360 degrees clockwise, now adjust intake valves on cyl#3 and cyl #4 and exhaust valves on cyl #2 and cyl #4.now tighten lock nuts and install valve cover. specs are intake valves 25mm clearance and exhaust 28mm clearance, use a feeler gauge,heres a picture to show you where to check clearance.7675a52.gif

Need tappet setting .do you set tappets when motor is cold or hot and at what gap for gl1100 1981


Make sure you understand this completely...the engine must be COLD, overnight in the frozen wasteland cold. No short cuts here, let the bike cool for 24 hours to be on the safe side. Your adjustments are .004" for Intake and .005" for exhaust. Hope this helps.

What is meant by ' Valve clearence ' ,How to adjust it.


"Valve Clearance" refers to the small gap between the valve lifter and the valve stem that allows the valve to completely close. Remove the Valve Cover and set the crankshaft to the timing marks (only found in your service manual), for each particular valve to be completely closed. Loosen lock nut and set with a feeler guage then retighten the locking nut on the adjustment shaft. Four valves = four adjustments. Does this help?

How to adjust valves.


The intake valves set at .006 plus or minus .001
The exhaust valves set at .008 plus or minus .001
Remove the rectangular valve access covers at the top front and top rear of the cylinder head. With the engine cold, remove the spark plug. Turn the flywheel to TDC compression then place the specified thickness flat feeler gauge between the top of the valve stem and the adjuster on the rocker arm. Set the adjuster so that there is a slight drag when removing the gauge. There should be a valve adjusting tool set in your tool kit. It is a "pin" that fits the top of the adjuster and an open wrench to loosen and tighten the lock nut on the adjuster.

How do I adjust the valves on my 2003 Yamaha Warrior YFM 350X?


first you need to remove everything that covers your valve covers(gas tank etc.) remove the intake valve cover,and the rotor nut and timing plug.set the engine a t.d.c.(top dead center)fit a socket onto the rotor nut and turn it counterclockwise until the"I" mark appears align it with the index mark in the timing hole.use a flat feeler gauge between the top of the valve and the adjuster.loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster just until you feel resistance on the feeler guage.hold the adjuster and tighten the lock nut down.i can not tell you the min.clearance spec to your quad since i have a 660 raptor.try using the smallest clearance number.

Crank the engine until the mark on the damper aligns with the TDC mark on the timing tab and the engine is in #1 firing position.

To adjust a valve back off the adjusting nut until lash is felt at the pushrod. Tighten the nut until all lash is removed. This can be determined by rotating the pushrods with your fngers. When all lash is removed the pushrod will stop rotating. When all play is removed rotate the nut one full turn.

With the engine in #1 firing position the following valves can be adjusted:
Exhaust 1,3,4,8
Intake 1,2,5,7

Crank engine one full revolution - The following valves can now be adjusted:
Exhaust 2,5,6,7
Intake 3,4,6,8
