Bike will go into all the gears ok, but after about 5 seconds in second gear in will slip then go back into second like I pulled the clutch lever in. If I throttle to fast in second it will slip right away. there is no loud noises like it made jumping out of gear last year before tearing it down and replacing a broken piece on the shifting cam. So I am hoping this is an easy fix. Someone told me that second gear in the tranny has worn dogs but I thought I would hear some loud banging noises as it went in and out of gear. I was hoping it was something else minor. During replacment of shifting cam, I inspected the dog ears and they looked fine.

Ok got it, you have a worn or bent shift fork and worn gear cogs transmission work needed to fix this problem. If you decide to have it repaired make sure to inspect all the gears and forks.
Good luck.

Transmission hard shifting between first an second gear only when this happens the tachometer goes erratic

You have a engine RPM sensor that is not working correctly. Computer thinks you have push gas pedal to the floor and is providing that type of shift. It may be the sensor attached to your gas pedal has worn out.

2010 Sportster shifts hard

Shifts hard,or bangs/slams in gear just means you need to take a bunch of play out of the clutch lever.Adjust the cable far enough that there is very little play in lever and the slam will go away.Clutch is dragging when you shift and won't allow gear alighnment smoothly, that's all.Need clutch fully open when shifting.

Clutch slipping in second gear only

Wave washer on the face of the clutch basket may have lost its tension, clutch friction plates may be wearing thin as she's an old girl. Some automotive (car) oils not specifically designed for wet clutches when used in a bike will cause the clutch to slip as they are designed to leave a deposit on friction areas. This will require a thorough flush and a few oil changes in quick succession.
Check the return function of the clutch release arm on the crankcase, they can bunch up the rubber shroud and not return fully. Good luck and Cheers.

Good news > save your money on the clutch. Bad news > Invest it in new shift forks. What you describe is a standard symptom of bent shift forks. Sorry to be the one to tell you this.
