93 crown vic , when i had the the fuel pump replaced i had to dispose of gas like turpentine and extreme rust on the pump itsself even tho the tank is plastic ....am i missing something simple ?


the rust and other liquid in the tank comes from petrol stations in ground fuel tanks which build up condensation and they rust from the inside out and then when you fill up it deposits it in your cars tank to build up to the point where it clogs up the fuel pump and filters thats why fuel filters are important and why they are fitted because they can't guarantee clean fuel supples

How do I fix a rear door that qill not open the lock is off and both inside and outside handles will not work but you can here the latch move when pulling handle


remove door panel to access latch the handles are attached to the lock and actuator by rods which are held in place by plastic clips usually these clips wear down and break or become disconnected or sometimes the lock actuator can stick from rust [lube up and move back and forth usually fixes ]as to the clips any auto store usually carry replacement

Car sit for 5 years only moved down drive way and back a few times during those years. When we got it there was a lot of sludge and filth in the fuel take. We replaced the fuel pump and cleaned the tank...


maybe not the injectors,the metal fuel rail that feeds the injectors may have rusted on the inside,
just pull the rail ,it will be obvious. They are chrome on the outside but Ford figured the fuel would keep the inside from rusting ,but if they sit........

I have a 92 Storm GSI. When driving down the road the car stalls like it is out of gas then starts running. I have replaced the fuel filter, pump and relay. Any other ideas?


For the age of this car it is a combination of both the fuel filter and pump, i owned one several years ago and found that the gas tanks are prone to rust inside, if you have replaced the pump and filter you may want to drop the tank again and check the screen on the pump if it is brown you have rust in the tank: another problem i had ( if you bought an oem pump ) they tend to slip out of position, you can tie the pump it place so it doesn't move......

I just acquired a 1985 BMW K75 motorcycle and the fuel tank has rust in it. How can I clean the tank properly and what should I be looking into replacing due to the rust? I also don't think the fuel pump...


Typically there's a plug that feed the power to the fuel pump on the right side of the bike. If you unplug and check it with a volt meter with the key on you can confirm if there's power getting to the pump if so the pump most likely went bad

Car sat 2yrs drive 22miles and dies like starving for fuel replaced fuel filter,pump cleaned tank will restart after few minutes


check inside your tank again once it starts to rust the coating inside wears off and it will rust again fast,unless its a plastic tank

Rust in ther filter means rust in the tank. There is a primary filter attached to the fuel pump inside the tank. Before you go further, replace that filter & wipe out the inside of the tank as well as you can.
Then check operation of pump and how it runs.

My 04 gsxr 1000 was parked for a year and a half when i bought it. I had a ton of rust in the fuel tank. The engine is fuel injected so it needs a free flowing fuel pump to keep a constant pressure. more than likely the strainer at the bottom of the pump housing is plugged up full of rust. You will need to remove the tank from the bike and drain all the bad fuel. Unbolt the pump housing from under the tank take care not to damage the o ring. Separate the pump from the housing by pulling apart. This may take some brute force because the rust tends to stick the pump to the housing. Once separated you will see the plastic micro strainer it will be solid brown impregnated by rust. Carefuly remove it and soak it in some fresh clean gosoline. Swish it around in a glass jar with a lid on it if possible. This worked for me. The alternative is a new strainer for about 100.00 USD. Clean the rest of the pump externally with a soft bristle brush. Drain the pump as best you can. Do not attempt to disassemble the pump as it is sealed and considered maintenance free. Ventalate the tank untill completely dry and blow it out with compressed air untill no more rust dust comes out of it. At this point you can recoat the inside of the tank if you wish, there is a product called kreme for that. Im cheap so i didn't recoat mine. Reassemble, refill with high octane fuel and dont store long term without draining the fuel tank completely and run the engine til it starves itself of fuel. With all this said YOU ARE DEALING WITH FUEL BE CAREFUL, DONT BLOW YOURSELF UP!!!

Engine will not that accelator pedal


I had the same problem. What it is, is low fuel presure at the fuel rail caused by either a bad/clogged fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter. You are supposed to have 33-37 psi at the rail and mine dropped as low as 16 psi. Mine was caused by a secondary fuel tank that was metal. the tank rusted inside and that rust ended up into my main tank. On long trips that rust would build up at the pump causing it to starve the engine of fuel. Ford quoted about 900 bucks to change out the pump.
I suggest buying a pump at somewhere like Napa and installing it yourself, making sure the tank is clear of debis. You can do this for under 200 bucks.
