I would like to know what kind of gear oil to put in my 06 yz 250

Calls for 10w/30. Any brand of mc specific oil will work. ie: Yamalube or Honda GN4 or the more expensive stuff will all work. On the cheaper side, you can use Type F (only) automatic transmision fluid. Just watch the color and change it when it starts getting dark.

The kick starter wont return on my 88 yamaha yz 250

If you can pull it back easily by hand, means it is not siezed where the shaft goes through the cases. so it may need a new return spring, you will have to pull the RHS cover off

Gear ratios

That's a heckuva undertaking to change out the whole tranny. Your better bet would be to play with the gearing of your front and rear sprockets and see if you can come to a tolerable solution. That woudl be worlds easier and tons cheaper. I dunno that it's even possible to replace the YZ tranny with the wide-ratio version from the WR.

2005 yz 250 shifting problems

Well. I'm a motorcycle mechanic and my 2004 RMZ 250 recently did the same thing, The Shift forks inside my transmission actually bent and were not moving the gears as far as they needed to go and eventually got to where it quit shifting all together, recently also repaired a CR 125 That wouldn't shift at all and it was the shaft the shift forks go on was bent and hung the shift forks. Sounds like your shift forks are bent to me though.
