Looking for the fuel float measurements for quad suzuki lt-f 300 1999..

There should be a line on the float bowl, if not set the carbs upside down on a work bench get eye level set floats to where you can only see half start there ,if they over flow back off a bit GET A MEASUREMENT IF POSSIBLE oh you'll have to make a aux fuel cell if you dont want to pull on and off seems like some specs are tuff to find so do this hope this helps

Hi, Todd and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Float needle and seat sticking.
5. Float level too low.
6. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
7. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
8. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
9. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
10. Slow fuel jet clogged.
11. Faulty fuel pump.

1965 buick skylark float level ajustment for 4.9l carburetor


The float level and float drop are both measured with the gasket in place. Having said that, here are the following measurements.

Float level is measured between the edge of the float seam and the formerly mentioned gasket. This measurement is 1/2" on a 2 bbl. and 1 21/64" on a 4 bbl. for the primary and 1 3/8" on the secondary.

The float drop is measured from the bottom edge of the float as it's hanging from the pivot, to the gasket.

The 2 bbl. is 1 29/32" and the 4 bbl. is 1 19/32" on the primary and 1 3/16" on the secondary.

These measurements and instructions come from a 1965 Chilton Auto Repair Manual as that's the only reference I have.

Probably the needle in the carb float bowl is sticking OR the float level is wrong or if the float is the type that can leak and fill with fuel it is leaky, the composite type normally does not have a weight increase and sink to allow too much fuel to enter the float bowl problem.

hold carb upside down and just as the float lever touches the needle float is normally square to carb base ! are all seals etc good ? does the float float in jar of fuel ?

your float settings inside your carb are set wrong read my advice to resetting them and you should be ok
You'll need to first start off by removing your carb. Be sure to clean the surrounding area to the best of your ability to avoid dirt and debris falling into your carb; or worse, your engine. After you've removed your carb I would suggest a thorough cleaning using carb cleaner (or equivalent) and compressed air to ensure that all jets and passageways are spotless. Avoid using wire or other tools to clean orifices of jets; it's all too easy to alter their original designed dimensions.

After your carb is clean you can now set your float level. The picture below will allow you to become familiar with the parts that are responsible for maintaining the correct float level in your carb. There are four basic parts, the floats themselves (part of the float assembly), the float assembly tang, the fuel inlet needle valve, and the fuel inlet valve seat.

It is always a good idea to remove the float assembly pivot pin (already shown removed) and extract the float assembly and the fuel inlet needle. The fuel inlet needle is a wearable part and over time can deteriorate. A worn fuel inlet needle can contribute to an irregular float level. Most fuel inlet needles consist of an internal spring loaded bumper (which contacts the float assembly tang) and a plastic or Viton (rubber) tip. Inspect the fuel inlet needle tip for wear and/or damage. To give you an idea, Eric Gorr recommends replacing the fuel inlet needle/seat assembly every two years. I've found that the average cost is around $15 for both parts.

Now that you've made sure you aren't going to have any issues from worn parts you can reinstall your needle, float assembly and float assembly pivot pin and continue on to set your float level. The float level measurement is taken from the top of the floats (when the carb is positioned upside down) to the gasket surface of the float bowl as illustrated in the next picture. You can use an open-end wrench (sized per your spec), a small metric ruler, or a float level gauge. The tolerance for your float level is usually around +/- 0.50mm.

When setting the float level be aware that the spring loaded bumper on the fuel inlet needle valve may have a tendency to compress under the weight of the float assembly which will skew your measurement. Before you obtain your measurement you'll need to make sure that the float assembly tang just barely makes contact with the spring-loaded bumper. Sometimes it is easier to hold the carb body at a 45-degree angle to avoid compressing the spring in the fuel inlet needle.

Be sure to recheck your work, and if you feel confident that your float level is spot on then you can reinstall your carb and get back to riding.

What is the float height on 1974 yamaha 175 enduro with needle closed and where do i measure


hi, looking in my manual for that year of bike, there is no mention of the float level, however normaly the float height of a constant depresion carburettor such as this is 27mm, this can be checked by holding the carburetor vertical with the air filter side facing up then slowly invert it until the float is just resting on the needle and not compressing,it.measure the distance between the gasket face of the carburettor and the bottom of the float. the fuel level can also be checked by using a lengthh of clear fuel pipe fitted to the drain at the bottom of the float chamber, undoing the drrain screw with the fuel pipe turned upwards toward the slide the fuel will climb up the pipe and show the present level,

HI IM HAVEING A BIT OF PROBLEM WITH MY BAROSSA CHEETAH 250 CC QUAD BECAUSE WHEN I TURN THE PETROL TP ON THE PETROL RUNS STIGHT THROUGH THE CARBREATOR AND THEN STRIGHT OUT THE OVER FLOW, BUTS ITS ONLY...


The leaking carbuerettor needs to have its float level set.
Remove the air filter assembly, the fuel pipes and cables.
Remove the carbs and turn them upside down. Remove the float bowl on one carb. This will expose the float. Pull out the pin holding the float in place. (Note the position of the spring that holds the valve to the float.)
Remove the float and valve(looks like a very small pencil)
Inspect the valve tip for damage(unevenness) and replace if nescesary.
Reassemble the carb. Do not fit the floatbowl yet.
Measure float level by turning the carb on its side to have the float "dangling" Tilt it slightly so that the float rests on the valve. Measure the distance between the bowl mating surface and the bottom of the float(See diagram). The distance should be 24mm. If it is not correct, bend the tab at the valve to allow for a larger or smaller distance. Fit the float bowl and repeat for the second carb.

YOU CHECK FLOAT LEVEL LOOKING AT THE SIGHT GLASS ON THE RIGHT OF THE CARBURETOR.FUEL LEVEL SHOULD ALIGN WITH THE DOT ON THE SIGHT GLASS.IF THE LEVEL IS ABOVE OR UNDER THE DOT THE CARBURETOR HAS TO BE DISASSEMBLED.TO SET FLOATS REMOVE AND INVERT THE AIR HORN UNTIL THE FLOAT ARM JUST TOUCHES THE NEEDLEVALVE OR THERE IS ABOUT 0.1 mm OR 0.004 INCH CLEARANCE BETWEEN THEM.MEASURE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE BOTTOM OF THE AIR HORN GASKET INSTALLED.AND THE CENTER OF THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOAT.THE DISTANCE SHOULD MEASURE 36.4 mm 1.39 - 1.47 INCH. Float setting for BS34ss carb


I have a set my float to 22.0 +- 1.0 for a Mikuni carb.
To set floats, drain the carbs, pull the carbs from the bike invert and remove float bowl.
With the carb inverted, take off the float bowls. Take off the gasket. Use a vernier caliper or an accurate device to measure from the carb body to the top of the float block.
