The relay may be bad or the new battery terminals may not be connecting due to corrosion etc.
check connections first.
get a 12v test light check the relay gets power from the switch, usually a red wire.
Check the relay has power from the battery.
Check the starter side of the relay, with button pressed

Would a bad spark plug not make my turn over? I have a 87 honda shadow 1100.

Hello there.

Not a bike expert but all engines are similar.

Short answer no. The spark plugs are inside the cylinder heads and have nothing to do with physically turning engine.to start it.

One chap had the same problem as you..See here for the story, it was the starter Motor faulty. http://www.hondashadow.net/forum/72-technical-discussion/103891-85-vt1100-wont-start.html

Turning her over works pretty much like this. Four items, Battery, Start switch, start Relay, Starter Motor.

Battery provide heavy duty power to the Starter Motor (which turns the engine over) via a RELAY which has a low power circuit. when you press ignition, the relay connects the heavy duty power to the starter to make it turn.;

Not turning over ....
1) Is the Battery charged ?
2) is the Start switch faulty ? (there would be no clicking from the starter relay)
3) Do you hear a click when trying to start but starter motor not turning ? If so it COULD be the starter motor.itself OR the relay. .

The relay looks like this

Hope this helps a bit.

2002 Honda VT 1100 C Shadow Spirit will not turn over

Hi, Kwegger # 7 is jumping up and down waving a red flag screaming "PICK ME PICK ME" before testing any electrical component in the Starter Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test because your battery may have 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amps causing the battery to be faulty and must be replaced, especially "AGM" batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

Get a click/click sound when trying to start changed relay still same problem

The click/click sound is a give away for a battery that hasn't enough power to activate the starter. It might be running the head light horn and all that other great stuff but lack the power once the starter button is engaged. Good way to check is hit the starter button while looking at the daytime running headlight if it dims way down you haven't got enough power in the battery.

My 2002 honda shadow spirit clicks when i try to start it and will not start. Where should I start??

The clicking is the starter solenoid trying to activate but the battery has not got enough power
Check battery has at least 12.5volts when fully charged, if batt is good it will crank the engine over rapidly

I have 1985 hoda shadow and wont start and when I hit the start botton all it dose it click and click and it wont start

Sounds like bad starter, or bad battery. If the battery is good, most likely bad connection at starter, or starter itself.
