Air/fuel adjustment screws are no longer accessible since about 1983. They are adjusted at the factory, and even dealers are subject to a $10,000 fine if they change the adjustment. On the other hand, consumers also take a risk and depending on what state you live in, you may get away with adjusting them yourself. The adjustment screw is usually capped with an aluminum plug and and is very difficult to remove, the carbs may need to be removed to even get at them to try to remove the plugs. Removal involves drilling a hole in the plug, and using a sheet metal screw driven into the drilled hole to pull the plug out. Be advised it is very easy to ruin your carb in the process.

A service manual is a valuable tool with an aging bike. I suggest the dealer/mfr. or Clymer books. In the meantime, go to the library reference section...646 stacks should have what you need.

Are there two air flow screws on carbs on a 1100 shadow or just one

Hi, Bruce each carb has only one air fuel mixture screw and one idle adjustment screw for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Honda, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. Is the low speed mixture on a 1980 HD keihin carby air flow or fuel flow, so I know which way to turn the hidden screw to richen the fuel mixture

typically the rule of thumb is that if the screw location is engine side of the carb vertical center line it is a fuel screw. If it is airbox side it is an air screw. This does not apply to some Chinese product. Not your case as the keihin is a Japanese brand.

Adjust air fuel mixture

Hi Wentzpatrick, on the right hand side of the carburator there is an idle adjusting screw with a spring behind it, turn screw clockwise to increase idle counter clockwise to decrease idle. There is also an air/fuel mixture screw inside a carb body lug that may or may not be plugged with an aluminum cap that's about 3/16" thick. This cap can be drilled out to acess the air/fuel mixture screw. Turning screw clockwise will lean out mixture and lower idle, turning screw counter clockwise will richen mixture and raise idle. You need to balance the two adjusting screws to obtain an idle of 950-1000 RPM then back out air/fuel mixture screw 1/4 turn, snap throttle to confirm responce, you may continue to back out air/fuel mixture screw untill desired throttle responce is achieved, if you see black smoke coming out of exhaust you have gone to far and need to turn screw back in 1/8 turn at a time. Good luck.

What do you mean by LA in the chainsaw?

Locate the adjustment screws near the carburetor labeled with an "H," an "L," and an "LA." The "H" screw adjusts the high speed fuel-air mixture; the "L" screw adjusts the low speed fuel-air mixture; and the "LA" screw adjusts the idle speed.

the carburetor settings are easy : 1- locate the screw mixture air /fuel 2- wind the screw all the way in 3- unwind the screw 1 1/2 turn and this should be sufficient to set the carburetor back to its original settings for the air/fuel mixture . 4- as for the idling screw , wind it down to suit the revs required

How to adjust air fuel mixture on a 87 suzuki samuria

On any carburator, one screw is for the idle speed, the other the air/fuel mix.Start the engine and let it get plenty warmed up. Adjust the idle screw to make the engine run slow. Turn the air/fuel screw in until the engine starts to die then out till it starts running loady. You want the screw between these two locations. Adjust it till the engine runs the fastest. Now adjust the idle speed screw to about 1000 RPM.
I hope this helps you.

I don't know where the air/fuel mixture screw is on my carb

There should be one screw (I'm assuming it's the Carter YF carburetor 1 barrel) that's by itself away from linkages etc, more to center at base of carb where it meets manifold, that is angled approx 45 degrees going in to base. That should be your mixture screw. What symptoms are you experiencing anyway?
