eaasy take off the timing /rocker cover and the top chain guide exposing the top of the chain undoo locknut and back off tensioner then break chain after tying both ends with cord so they cant fall in then splice the new chain onto the old and wind it through taking care to not let it jump teeth on timing wheels, detatch old chain from the new one, swage rivet pin in join of new chain crank engine by hand with a spanner two full rotations to check for valve piston interference and reassemble tighten tensioner until chain feels tight then back off 1/4 turn put back upper chain guide and bolt down rocker cover and you are done easy

It does it its self via the cam chain tensioner. They do get stuck sometimes. Its easy to fix. Not so easy to explian. Get a manual

Yes, it is the cam chain tensioner. With the engine off, just loosen the tensioner lock bolt then strongly tap a few times on the tensioner casing with a screwdriver handle. This will free up the spring loaded tensioner. Now just re=tighten the tensioner lock bolt and you're done. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_157.gif

Head gasket got bent and I have replaced it . Now the problem I'm facing is how to set the crank shaft and the comshaft timing. I need the procedure for engine timing

Timing Chain & Gears Removal & Installation To Remove:
NOTE: Keep the cam chain away from magnetic fields.
Crankshaft set at TDC marks hnda_trk_crv_crank_tdc_marks.gif

  1. Turn the crankshaft pulley so its Top Dead Center (TDC) mark (1) lines up with the pointer (2).
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the front tires/wheels. Front undercar splash shield hnda_trk_crv_frt_under_splsh_shld.gif

  4. Remove the front undercar splash shield.
  5. Remove the drive belt.
  6. Remove the cylinder head cover (See section on Valve Cover).
  7. Remove the crankshaft pulley (See section on Crankshaft Damper). CKP sensor and VTC solenoid electrical connectors hnda_trk_crv_ckp_vtc_ele_conn.gif

  8. Disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor connector (1) and Variable Valve Timing Control (VTC) oil control solenoid valve connector (2).
  9. Remove the VTC oil control solenoid valve (See section on VTC Solenoid Valve).
  10. Support the engine with a jack and wood block under the oil pan. Ground cable and upper bracket removal hnda_trk_crv_grnd_cbl_uppr_brckt_rem.gif

  11. Remove the ground cable (1), and remove the upper bracket (2). Side engine mount bracket removal hnda_trk_crv_side_eng_mount_brckt_rem.gif

  12. Remove the side engine mount bracket. Timing chain cover removal hnda_trk_crv_timng_chain_cov_rem.gif

  13. Remove the timing chain cover bolts both from the front to the block and from the bottom to the oil pan.
  14. Remove the timing chain cover.
  15. Loosely install the crankshaft pulley. Compress the timing chain auto-tensioner hnda_trk_crv_compr_tim_chain_auto_tensnr.gif

  16. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to compress the auto-tensioner. Lock the timing chain auto-tensioner hnda_trk_crv_lock_tim_chain_auto_tensnr.gif

  17. Align the holes on the lock (1) and the auto tensioner (2), and then insert a 0.06 inch (1.5 mm) diameter pin (3) into the holes.
  18. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to secure the pin. Removal of the timing chain auto-tensioner hnda_trk_crv_rem_tim_chain_auto_tensnr.gif

  19. Remove the auto-tensioner. Removal of the timing chain guide B hnda_trk_crv_rem_tim_chain_guide.gif

  20. Remove the cam chain guide B. Removal of the timing chain guide A hnda_trk_crv_rem_tim_chain_guidea.gif

  21. Remove the cam chain guide A (1) and tensioner arm (2).
  22. Remove the cam chain.

Vt500 c ticking sound. Cam chain tensioners pretty sure its the cam chain tensioner springs. lost their spring If its been making this noise for a while what else would i need to replace. cam...

You have a self adjusting cam chain tensioner. It is sold as an assembly. Take out the complete unit and replace it with a new one. The springs are not bad , the device that keeps the pressure on the tensioner is slipping causing a ticking sound.

Hi have a yamaha fj1100 want to do the cam chain tensioner its a bit noisey cold was told to change to a manual tensioner where can i get one? I live in Australia. Cheers

Howdy: Depending on the year some FJs have a nut/screw at the bottom rear of the front cylinder. This can be adjusted and it works.
If the chain has not been adjusted in the past the nut/screw may be
stuck with gunk. Spray a little carb cleaner on the nut/screw and let set for a couple houres then try again. Get a manual for that year follow the "cam chain tensioner" procedure. I do not have enough lines to expain the proceedure. Good luck and ride safe - Doug

Lotsof knocking no power

If the cam chain jumped then the tensioner is not tight. Timing is way off and valve hit piston. Need to **** case and replace tensioner, dry time then install new piston and pull vales to see if they are bent.

Cam chain

That is an extremely difficult engine to work on regarding the chain. There is on thing you can try is to change the tensioner for the rear chain. You can access it from the passenger wheel well, it looks like a big nut from the outside. Get a new tensioner screw and replace it. if that dosent work you will have to remove either the engine or the transmission to gain access to the chain itself.
