My car will not stay charged. does the 1998 mecury grand marquis 4.6 have a 175 amp mega fuse. is so, where is it located.

Some possibilities, battery--battery connections--generator--generator wiring-- too much parasitic drain with everything off.

Here is charging system diagram. I didn't look for mega fuse, I will if you want it. In the diagram, you can see applicable fuses and fusible links.
If battery is down get it charged up, can't do any testing if battery is down. With a charged battery, everything thing off, use digital multimeter across battery posts, the generic spec for a full charge is around 12.6 volts. Then start vehicle, take second reading across battery posts, the second reading should be higher than the first if charging system is working.

Cant get batteries to charge

hi, you could have blown the fuse contained with the battery unit ?
If you have a electrical meter put the probes into the two outside holes of the charger socket, do not let them touch and check the DC here. No voltage shown then take the battery unit apart to locate the fuse. and check the leads have not come off the batteries.

Take care with dis assembly.

I am plugging my charger in and it is not charging the batteries

There are 2 charging and battery related fuses on this model that should be checked and if burnt open replaced with the same color and fuse type. One fuse is located under a rubber boot near the charging port. Use needle nose pliers or your finger nails to remove and inspect. The second fuse is hidden under the battery box. Pull up and out to remove the battery box and inspect the fuse in the base underneath. If both of the fuses are OK open the battery box and check all the connections. You will need a long phillips #1 screwdriver to do this. Hope this helps

I cannot charge the battery. The charge LED

Hi,

You can temporary bridge the fuse to see if that is your problem. There are not 2 fuses connected to the charging but infct just the one the "F1" fuse, the other fuse you are refering to is the "F2" fuse which is the fuse that allows power to the unit. This is a common naievety made by people who often have limited or little understanding of the DS lites circuitry.

I would NEVER perminately bridge a fuse... It is there for a reason, another naieve move by a lot of people. If you consider the fact that you can buy a replacement fuse on ebay for under £5, or much lower if you know the fuse details (SMD Fuse 0603 1a).

As I said earlier by all means temporarily bridge the fuse just to test if that is the issue, if it resolves the problem then you know all you need to do is replace it with a new one.

If thats not the resolution to the issue get back to me and I can try and help you further.

Also if you click on my name it will take you to my profile page, on there you will see a list of guides I have written. Take a look at the one I have written about Fuse replacements for the DS, I have added clear pictures to help locate which fuse is where.

Let me know what you find out and if it is indeed the fuse.

SOD69

New altanator still wont charge

There is a 15amp fuse in the interior fuse block that controls the field power to the alternator. If this has blown, you will get no charging. Check your manual for the Alternator Field fuse location and post back if it is still good.

Toshiba Laptop wont work unless plugged in, i recently bought a new battery think that the battery was the problem and still it doesnt work unless its plugged in. please help me!

Go to CONTROL PANEL / POWER OPTIONS / POWER METER. Is the battery charged or charging?

If POWER METER says the battery is charged, you have a motherboard problem. Take it to a tech.

Do you have a voltmeter?

Remove the battery and check for voltage at the laptop's battery contacts, while it is plugged in. No voltage = charging circuit defect. A blown internal fuse or other motherboard problem. Take it to a tech.

Voltage OK or no voltmeter - take it to a tech.

A qualified technician should have a schematic and other technical documentation for your model It can be rather difficult (expensive) and hit-or-miss to locate possible fuses without the factory paperwork.

Good luck.

DS charging cicuit not working

You may have a bad fuse. There are two fuses on the ds main board. F2 is the fuse from the battery. If it is bad the ds will not charge or power up when you turn it on. F2 is next to the battery contacts on the mainboard. F1 is the fuse for the power supply. I am not really sure were it is located. I had to jump the F2 on one the other day. Do a search on google for nintendo ds fuses. That should come up with some pics. You have to disassemble the ds and do some very tight solder work to repair the fuses. Not for the faint of heart.
