Either that or your stator or the rectifier are not longer working right. try to check the output of those.
how old is the battery? if you have a battery tender, try putting the battery on the battery tender for a while.
if you have a draw on the battery, check any accessory that you may have installed and the cables that goes to them. look for loose connections or rusty ground

I have a 99 chevy malibu ls. It started just fine until one day I came out to find it would not crank over. Just got the dash lights. Thought it was the battery so I put my jump pack on it and it started...

That would indicate a dead battery. Get it load tested for free at your local auto parts dealer. Also make sure connections are tight. It would be the alternator if battery load test is good.

Car wont start without a jump all lights on dash are on it starts then dies right away on 97 olds achieva

Seems you may have more than one problem. A few questions you must answer first. If you have to jump it to start it,then your battery is dead are you have a draw draining the battery. Now if it dies right away look at your security light and see if it is on. Probably your security system is thinking someone stole the battery and shuts the fuel system down. Change the battery and Google the reset security system on 1997 Olds Achieva and you probably be set to go

Jump start

it seems to me that either the battery does not have sufficient amount of cranking power or the starter may be drawing too much current. step one test battery at a local auto parts store and at the same time they can check the alternator output, you'll should get a solid answer from those two test.

I jumped car off it crunk on its own fora day, then batt went dead again, this time it won't jump off. It wants to crank but won't turn over.

not sure what you said but.
seems the battery is discharging,? 12.6v is fully charged,
own a voltmeter?
try a good loaned battery , does it start the car,?
i think you meant?
i can jumper cable start my car at any time. (off another running car)
but after running my car, the battery discharges and it will not crank at all. right?
this means ,the charging system on your car is bad.
if the starter cranks great, then the engine is flooded or is in great need of a tune up (sparkplugs etc)
if flooded try the super secret in the op guide, crank with throttle wide open , this magic trick cuts all fuel injection allowing the flooding
to purge away, and eventual starting.
my guess 2 is the car wont start, so you crank the battery flat
you jumper start it and it runs. (luck)
then day 2, same deal cranks ok but wont start.. ever tune up the engine?

It is likely you have a draw in the truck. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5925550-dead_battery_troubleshooting . These are genericinstructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

I go to start it, starter turns but it wont start. but I can jump start it . I put in battery from other bike that starts same thing.

By 'jump start' I presume you mean 'bump start', you run, jump on the bike and drop it in to gear? Although it used the word 'jump', bump start is a legacy from when car would bump start another using the metal bumpers rather than using a crank handle. The term 'jump' refers to jumper leads from one battery source to another. Anyway, I digress :>)

Sounds like there is too much current draw from cranking the engine to supply enough current to the ignition. I would trace all the connections from the battery to the starter, remove them, clean them with a wire brush and smear them with Vaseline Petroleum Jelly (which is electro-conductive), and re-tighten. check the connections to the ignition coils, part the connector, check for corrosion, and spray with WD40. Make sure the battery is fully charged using a battery charger. Clean the battery posts with a wire brush until shiny and apply Vaseline. Also put in clean, properly gapped spark plugs, and check the connection of the HT leads.

Hope this is helpful to you.

When your car battery goes dead for no apparent reason, Occasionally something is drawing power that’s not of your doing. This is a parasitic draw, and it can cause the same result as leaving the headlights on. To read more on this type of battery drain please visit my blog

i believe if you remove the steering wheel upper and lower covers, there will be a button to push to allow the removal of the key..as for the no start, the battery light is on because of the alternator. Its faulty. the clicking sound could very well be the starter not having enough power reaching to turn it over again unless you put a power pack on it...try a brand new battery, test the alternator and removed the key..it is possible the the key not shutting off the way, is drawing power from the battery not allowing to start that way, causing what they call a "parasitic drain". charge battery, remove key. try that
