Hello i just wanted to know where does the tech cable/rev counter cable go into the engine on a 2000 yamaha dtr 125 r. if you could let me know i will be very greatful for your help thanks michael

You have to be very careful with a 2 stroke because an air leak can kill it. This is something that I wouldn't recommend tackling unless you knew what you wrer doing. At a minimum, You might want to take it to a tech school, or your school districts auto mechanics class and see it they will do it for you. They love this type of thing, and they have the tools.

Pick your battles wisely.

Assuming you are using two stroke engine oil, the pump is pumping too much into the gas. DO NOT use motor oil in the gas. If 2 stroke oil is being used, then get a new pump, fix the one you have or disconnect the pump and mix the oil with gas when you fill up. Four ounces of 2 stroke oil per gallon of gas equals the standard 32/1 fuel mix.

The assembly of DT's speedo are all the same after 1998 models. below is a picture of a 2002 DT125/175. the assembly is the same, only that yours does not have a tachometer, yet the placement of the assembly is the same.

Triumph twin, the rev counter has started to read below the real rpm. The faster the revs the more wrong is the tacho

The inner part of the cable could be slipping / warn out or broken.
Check the cable where it attaches at both ends, tighten up if loose.
Take the cable off and check the ends for obvious wearing, if the inner cable looks damaged, replace with a new one.

Some bikes have a totally different set up to how they read the rpm
you could try a after market rev counter, good luck

The rev counter is not working, is it electronic or a cable 1989 3l aut glx sierra

It should be electric but check to see if there is a cable from the engine to the dash . Tachos (rev counter) normally get their impulses from the distributor and the power from the ignition run line

Our mower is lacking power, on full throttle it appears as though its not getting enough fuel to allow it to get maximum revs. I changed the fuel filter and also put a tap in the fuel line, and I installed...

If it starts and runs fine, the first thing I would do is to check if the throttle cable sleeve has slipped where it connects to the carb. I have seen a few of these tractors where the cable was not tightened well enough and it slipped.
I don't have a picture of your actual motor. But here is a picture of the clip that holds your throttle cable tight. toolboxhero.jpgFollow the cable from the handle on your dash down to the motor. Find this clip on the side of the motor. Now: Move the throttle back and forth until you see how the cable moves the throttle mechanism. Does the cable extend to give the engine full throttle or shorten?
You want to move the cable so it gives the engine more throttle. I personally do this with the engine running but don't do this yourself unless you are comfortable doing so. So loosen the bolt and move it only about 1/8 inch at a time.
If you don't feel comfortable doing this call 1-800-4MY-HOME and have a Sears tech come out and work on it.

Rev counter activates when ignition is turned on ,but wont work when engine running

This is usually caused by a broken sender wire. Check the cable for tight bends from the sender unit up to the rev counter, you will probably have to purchase a new sender unit.

Hello My 18 year old neighbour bought his first car last week, a '95 Chrysler Stratus 2.0 with manual gear box. Now the tachometer is broken, I was told that there were some plastic parts inside it...

the engine has a rev limiter inbuilt,so after 6250 revs it will cough and sputter.the rev counter is for people who drive to strict rev limits to conserve fuel,and the obvious drivers who drive to the max power/engine revs for "fun"most men drive to the "sound" of the engine,so a rev counter is excess to your money.(once he gets his "no claims discount" down he will buy a bmw anyway.........)

Most rev counters of this type wire the positive wire to the contact points on the distributer and the black (negative) to ground.

My spedo and rev counter are not working!need to fix

if either pointer or ( needle ) is damaged a new clock will be needed, allso check condition of both drive cables that go to your clocks remove with plyers or fingers if poss, then trace back to engine and front wheel, allso disconnect ,turn inner cable with your fingers the other end will turn if good. the end of the cable should be square ,and not rounded off ,allso oil cable from the top if stiff.

My rev counter does not work on my kawasaki er5 1999

The ER5 has got an electronic rev-counter, no cable.

Like the oval rear brake-drums this is another ER5 bugbear, the rec/rec fails, the battery boils and the rev-counter is usually a victim too.
Often on ER5 specific forums there will be someone who repairs the circuit board and sells the repaired units much cheaper than a new one. it's usually a tiny zener-diode that is killed.

hi i think your going to need to replace the speedo cable this goes from the back of the dash display through the bulk head then into the back of the gear box.
When you remove the old one remember how it came out as they can be fidly to do.
Im not 100% sure how much of the dash has to come out untill the display is free and you can get to the back of it.
The cables are not expensive but can be tricky to replace if you are unsure about working on vehicles.
Even if you took it to garage to get done it should not cost that much anyway if your going to do it yourself its best to buy the part before you reomve the old one so as you can follow the old one with the new one.
where it goes into the back of the rev counter this should just be hand tight and should undo the cap that holds it into the rev counter then it should pull out.
Where it goes into the gearbox you will need big spanners im not sure of size but usually about 17 or 19 spanner udon this and ot should pull out its splined into the gearbox once removed you will know if the cable is damaged by turning one end and see if the other end turns or not.
In the rare case that this cable is fine then you might find that the rev counter needs replacing this is not likely to be the problem though as they usually last as long as the car.
The gearbox end should have no problems so i would remove rev cable first and check this youll find it will have split in half.
