Sounds like you've lost either spark or fuel. Take another set of spark plugs and plug them into your spark plug wires. Do not remove the plugs from the head. Spin the engine and watch for spark. If no spark, first check the "run/start" switch. If it's alright, you need to check the fuse for you ignition system to see if it's blown.

On fuel injected engines, you have a fuel pump. Check the fuse for the fuel pump. Listen for the fuel pump to run when the switch is turned on.

If you bike is carburated, check the petcock. In 1996, H-D went to a vacuum operated fuel petcock. These things are notorious for giving problems. Either the diaphragm gets a hole in it and shuts off the fuel or the vacuum hose comes loose. Check the vacuum hose that comes off the back of the carburetor and runs to the VOES switch and the petcock. You may have to remove the petcock to service the diphragm in it.

If you remove the petcock, there are four small bolts on the backside. Remove the four bolts, lift the plate and theres a spring and a diaphragm behind the plate. Check the diaphragm for holes. If you find hole, replace the diaphragm. If not, replace everything and test the petcock by applying vacuum to the rear of the petcock while blowing though the fuel line nipple. When you appy the vacuum, the petcock should be open. With no vacuum, petcock should be closed. Good Luck, Steve

Engine acted like it was going to stall, then tachometer(rpm) and speedometer jumped up high, gas gauge dropped to empty level though there was half tank of gas acted like it wasn't getting gas pumped gas...

Ignition or fuel problem probably . When you turn the key to start does the engine spin ? Crank no start or nothing happens NO CRANK - NO START ?
If the engine spins an does not start an run you need to test to see what's missing Spark or fuel . Pull a spark plug wire off a spark plug an stick a screw driver in the end an hold it near ground (metal) and have someone try to start the vehicle ! Is there spark ? Spray starting fluid into the engine , does it start then ?

1998 dodge stratus stalls while driving if gas tank is half empty

You need to check fuel pressure carefully. This happens when tank is so full of dirt that the pump screen gets clogged. After sitting down several minutes, some of the dirt settles and the car can be restarted, but happens again. Refrain from starting to change every sensor without knowing what is the real cause, because you could be thowing money and not fixing it. Aldo check pressure regulator is functioning correctly. My 1998 Hyundai Elantra will not start after running out of gas. When I put gas in it ,it would crank but it took a long time to start. I drove it 3 miles and it shut off. I cranked it and cranked it,but it...

Don't let the car run out of gas. Fill the tank and run until the tank is half empty. Again fill the tank.
By driving until you run out of gas, you are letting sediments/dirt collected in the bottom of the tank to enter the engine. Rather they will block the fuel filter. Then gas will not reach the engine.
Clean the gas filter and your car will run fine.
The same advice again. Don't drive until the tank becomes empty.

2005fatboy keeps sputtering and stalling out has gas half full cant make it to dealer starts right up has 3000miles on it feels like running out fuel just dies out wait a minute start back up ride a couple...

Could be a fuel line restriction, bad petcock, problem with the vacuum line to the petcock if this is a carburated engine. Could be something as simple as a bad gas cap. Try loosening the gas cap just a bit and ride to see if does it then. Loosen the right side tank cap.

If it's fuel infected, I'm sorry but I can't help you.

How to prep my engine??

Best if you put a half gallon of gas in the tank when it is off the bike. Shake the tank really good then dump the gas into a clear bowl. Probably a lot of rusty trash in the gas. Do this a couple of times to at least give the CARBS a fighting chance to start the bike.
ADD AN IN-LINE FUEL FILTER BEFORE GETTING GAS TO THE CARBS!

To prevent a fire, hook up the air filters to the CARBS. Have a fire extinguisher handy. Trust me on this. I do not want to make hospital calls. Spray starting fluid is fine. Spray into the area of the air filter intake. Don't you dare try to start the motor without first talking to your best buddy motorcycle Guru.

Escalade won't start

check the fuel pump. there is an access port on the fuel rail underneath the intake manifold cover. it looks like a valve for putting air in a tire. at your local car parts store you can find a fuel pressure guage to make sure your getting the 45lbs psi that is needed to run the fuel system. if your not getting 45psi when you crank the engine replace the fuel pump. it is located in the gas tank. ( FYI ) If you run below a 1/4 tank of fuel the fuel pump is no longer covered with gas, and over heats. thats why most of the gm pumps go bad. D
