Question about 1981 BMW R 45

1 Answer

Nothing functioning in electrical circuit except parking lights.

Initially, main switch fitted. Subsequently, loss of start button power, and warning lights from rev counter . After checking with voltmeter, finally loss of headlights and horn and iindicators. I noticed that previous owner had fitted heated grips. Seemed to work on RH side only. I would be happy to remove the wiring if it helped!! Also I noticed a click from below the saddle when operating the clutch lever.
Yours in desperation. Ray Pool. Thanks fellas.

Check the battery with a voltmeter. If it drops below 11v while the key is on or you are trying to start it the battery is faulty. You can also try connecting jumper cables (I would do so without the donor vehicle running), if the instruments & lights work while cables are connected your battery is the problem.

hi, this sounds like a discharged battery, however to ilimenate the starter solenoide bridge the 2 thick wires with some insulated pliers, you will get quite a large spark when you do this but this is normal , if the engine turns over this will prove there is suficiant charge in the battery, you dont need the ignition turned on to do this however the engine wont start unless it is, without the key on you will have no other drain on the battery, so it would be most interesting if you tried it first without the ignition on ,

My Buick 2004 rendevous,my door ajar light stays on and it dings, and the locks, lock and unlock a the while when driving

Probably the switch input to the BCM is bad . door ajar switch .
The BCM is also capable of commanding other vehicle systems to control functions that are not directly wired to and/or controlled by the BCM. The BCM accomplishes this task by sending specific messages on the class 2 serial data link. The vehicle system capable of performing such function will respond to the BCM message.
The BCM controls/monitors the following functions:
• Audible warnings
• Indicators control
• Interior lighting
• Exterior lighting
• Power/automatic door locks
• Keyless entry
• Content theft deterrent
• Personalization
• Serial Power Modes
• Electrical Power Management

Audible Warning
The body control module (BCM) provides the following audible control functions. Some audible control functions may be controlled by other systems through the class 2 serial data link:
• Headlamp on reminder
• Key in ignition reminder
• Personalization mode
• Delay locking indication
• Keyless entry programming/diagnostic mode indication

Indicator Control
The body control module (BCM) provides the following indicator control functions through the class 2 serial data circuits. Some indicator control functions may be controlled by other systems through the class 2 serial data link:
• Door ajar
• Liftglass/endgate ajar
• Park brake
• High beam
• Park lamp malfunction
• Service vehicle soon
• Personalization mode
• Security LED
• Battery

Triumph Sprint GT complete loss of all power

Hi, Anonymous before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter motor or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. Faulty ignition relay.
14. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
15. Check for engine trouble codes.

I turn the key to start & i get nothing

When you turn the key to on, do the warning lights and gauges come on normally? Any reason to suspect the battery is low? Has the starter motor performed flawlessly up to this point?

Without a voltmeter or test light, one's best choice is to take the starter off and have it tested. With a test light, check for power on the small purple wire at the starter solenoid, with the key held in crank. If power there, probably bad starter or solenoid. If no power, start checking the start circuit-power is lost between the ignition switch and the starter solenoid-clutch interlock switch or park/neutral switch may be the problem.
Battery cables, terminals, starter electrical connections, and ground screws: make sure all are good with tight clean connections.

What to check if it wont turn over does nothing

Start at the battery. Check for clean, tight connections. Any chance it is discharged? It needs to be at lest 12.6 volts on a voltmeter to be ready to start the car.
Is there power from battery to the ignition switch? Turn key on. Do warning lights and gauges come on? And accessories work? Then there is power to the switch. If nothing, start checking fuses and fusible links that pass power from battery to the switch.
An electrical circuit is a complete electrical path from a power source to an electrical load to ground, and back to the power source-the battery. The starting circuit is just such a circuit. From the battery to the key switch to a relay or switch (neutral safety switch) or two, to the starter, and then to ground-back to the battery. If the key turns power on, one could next see if power is getting to the starter solenoid, mounted on the starter. The small wire to the solenoid should have power to it when the key is held in crank position. Use a test light or voltmeter to check for power there. If has power, likely the starter or solenoid is bad. You then need to take it off and have it tested-a free service at most parts stores. If no power is getting to the solenoid, but the ignition switch has power, further testing of the start circuit will have to be done -the clutch switch (or neutral/park switch if automatic trans.), the starter relay, and whatever else is in your starting circuit.
If car has an alarm system, make sure it is not activated, so the immobilizer function is not causing a no start.
Good luck. Post back with results.

Are you saying you don't get warning lights when you turn the key to the on position ?
Did you try cranking the engine in neutral instead of park ?

Intermittent electrical shut down

When you turn the key on, do the warning lights come on the dash ?
Can you turn the headlights on ?
These answers will help narrow down the problem to the main circuits or just the key switch.

FUSE IS GOOD BATTERY HAS LIFE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. YAMAHA BWS 2004

Yes instrument lights at least should come on.
Power goes from the battery to the ignition switch via the main fuse, & then splits to ignition & lights (via auxiliary fuses if present) which are separate circuits.
The problem could be an auxiliary fuse (if fitted) then contacts inside the ignition switch or wiring/connections from the ignition switch out to the ignition circuit
That is presuming the cluster light bulbs work!

Hope this helps ( if so please mark as very helpful)

Hello :

This could happen because of bad door switch or a loose door mount .This is the main reason that microwaves not heat even if the other functions work fine .

Warning : A microwave is capable to give you a serious electrical shock even when it's unplugged , so I recommend you to call a repair technician for help .

good luck .

I have a Viewpia LC-32IE21H which does not want to switch on.

For a three years old set, first place to look is the main power supply capacitors, at least the 5vdc standby circuit is working, the problem can be as bad as the main controller board, but look at the power supply first.
