I usually get to the negative ground bolt from the right side of the bike. You need a long crosspoint screwdriver. Removing the seat does help a bit as you can see it better. Good Luck, Steve

I need to change out my battery on my 2009 harley davidson softail deluxe

The battery is under the seat. The seat was held on by a large socket head bolt on either side of the seat on the earlier model Softails. Once you get the seat off, you'll see how the battery comes out. Disconnect the negative cable first and reconnect the negative last when you replace the battery.

Good Luck

How do I remove a battery on a 2004 Harley Davidson DYNA FXDI

I've never taken the battery out a Dyna model this new but the way the earlier models worked is that the battery tray raises and lowers with a bolt. Take the seat off. On either side of the battery box, there is a locking bolt. Loosen these two bolts and there is a third bolt that raises or loweres the entire battery box. Disconnect the negative battery cable first and reconnect the negative cable last.

good Luck

Please describe your instructions for changing battery for a 2006 harley davidson softail problem:

The battery for your Softail is under the seat. The older Softail seats had a large bolt on either side of the seat to hold it on. Once you get the seat off, you'll see the battery. Disconnect the negative side first as you take the battery out. Reconnect the negative side last as you install the new battery.

Good Luck

How can i remove the battery cover off a 2004 harley fxdwg. i would like a video or a digram picture.

On most Wide Glides you have to remove the seat. Take the small screw out of the back end of the seat that holds it to the fender and lift the rear of the seat up and pull back. If you have a sissy bar on the bike, you may have to remove it as well to get the seat off.

Looking at the battery from the right side of the bike, you'll see two bolts on the frame on the left side of the battery. Loosen these two bolts, do not take them completely out, just loosen them.

Back to the top where the seat was, look behind the battery on the inside of the frame and you'll see a bolt head. Loosening this bolt "lowers" the battery tray, tightening the bolt raises the battery tray. Lower the battery to get the top cover and outside cover out from around the battery.

Whenever you're messing with a battery. Always disconnect the negative side first when taking the battery out. Reconnect the negative side last when putting it back in. This prevents arcs that can cause damage to tools and other parts of the bike and may cause the battery to explode.

How do i get to the battery on a 05 softail deluxe

The battery is located inside the "horseshoe" oil tank. To get to it, take the seat off. The seat is held on by two large bolts, one on each side of the seat. It takes something like a 3/8" hex key. Remove the bolts, lift up on the back of the seat and pull to the rear. The seat comes off.

Make sure you disconnect the negative side of the battery first and reconnect the negative side last.

How does one get the battery out of a 2004 harley fxd?

The FXD is a member of the Dyna family. Most Dyna frames are about the same. On my FXDWG, you must remove the seat. Then on the left side of the battery cover, you'll see two bolts. Loosen these bolts. Under the seat near the battery, you'll see a screw. This screw raises and lowers the battery tray with the battery in it. Disconnect the negative post first. When installing the new battery, connect the negative last. Helps keep from arcing the battery and doing damage to something or blowing the battery up in your face. It can happen, it has happened to me. A battery will blow up. Be careful and good luck.

Take off the Derby cover, the fluid should come to just below the bottom lip. I change mine every other oil change. Be very careful with the O-ring seal on the derby cove it can be a pain to seat properly and will pinch and leak if your not careful. I use a little vaseline to seat the O-ring
