Hi, So_spoiled4u if you ever see gas weepage from your air cleaner after a putt you may be suffering from fuel reversion or standoff. This is a common end result when changing air cleaners, camshafts, and or exhaust systems or mufflers and not using the proper combination of parts that will not give you maximum performance. Basically, what happens is you have upset the delicate balance of the speed in which the air/fuel mixture enters the combustion chamber. If you change your mufflers the exhaust pulse/charge leaving the exhaust valve hits the baffle and bounces back to the exhaust port putting up a different amount of resistance to the next outgoing pulse/charge depending upon the baffle design. This negative situation can sometimes be remedied by installing reversion/torque cones. If you change your carburetor it may create a virtual wall of fuel, that can be viewed by removing the air cleaner, too be spitting back towards the air cleaner. This negative situation can sometimes be remedied by installing a longer intake manifold. Camshaft induced reversion can only be fixed by using a different cam with the proper amount of duration and or overlap. This phenomenon is more noticeable at higher RPM's and can really rob power and performance from a really great ride. I change my fuel pump , filter on my 1994 Isuzu pickup truck ,4cylinder 2.3 liters and I have no gas a carburetor. I try using starting fuel to start it and its starts and dies . How can I fix it?

Take the gas line off at carb, and crank the engine over. If gas does not start spurting out from the gas line, then the new pump is not working right. Maybe the pump arm is not situated right against the eccentric gear that makes the pump work. You would need to re-situate the fuel pump.

Can only pump fuel very slowly into my 2003 2.7 litre Kia optima. Why, and how to fix?

Check that the flap/valve that moves aside when you insert the fuel nozzle is moving fully. Also check the rubber tube on inside of the fuel filler cap to the tank is ok .. and often, there may be a thinner tube that acts as a vent... check the vent tube (if fitted).

When you fill your car with fuel the back pressure from the vehicle fuel tank causes the fuel nozzle to cut out and stop delivering. This is just a safety feature. Every fuel nozzle in the world is the same..

You don't have a big problem. Next time you refill with fuel try delivering in short 'spurts' .. pull the trigger for a few seconds and then release .. pull again ... Let the pressure in the tank drop between spurts. Don't shove the nozzle into the fuel filler and try and blast gallon after gallon into the tank.

I'm in the UK. I have a 1998 Jeep. Every time I fill it with gas it takes a while and my wife phones the police to report me missing from home... You don't have a problem. Fill it with spurts..

1997 Transport. Why does gas keep spurting back out fuel tank neck, yet it's not full?

When it is close to being full you have to get the last amount in slowly lest you have it spurt out at you. Normal for all cars nowadays.

Car wont start

I had replace the fuel filter. I'm sure you changed that as well, check fuse for your pump. if you have to remove the fuel line befor the intake and make sure the fuel is being pumped. (be careful fuel will pump out fast so only crank the motor over in short spurts.
good luck

I have a dual fuel, two mantles, coleman lantern. I have changed the mantles several times and they keep getting holes almost every time i light the lantern.

Make sure that the vapourised fuel is coming through the mantle before lighting up. You should hear a hissing sound when the flame adjusting lever is turned to high. If not it is possible that the generator is clogged up and that vapourised fuel is not getting through to the mantle. So when you light up you are essentially just burning the mantle. If the generator is knackered it will need to be replaced. One way to check it to remove the generator, primed the tank and turn the valve on. If fuel spurts out when the generator is removed (DON'T LIGHT IT U)P THOUGH) but there is no hissing sound when the generator is intact then it is a sure sign that the generator is clogged up. In the UK a replacement generator should set you back £10-15. Hope this helps, Bandit

Turned mower on and think it was oil spurting out of it. Started smoking. Filter has oil on it. If I change the filter and the oil do you think that will solve the problem? Thanks for a good answer!

Yes the sump has become diluted with fuel. Change the oil replace or clean the filter and fit an online fuel tap to turn off when the mower is not in use. Regards Phil

Lawn mower will not start

check gas tank with light is there dirt in tank? did you change fuel filter? is there spark at the spark plug? try a 2 second spurt of starting fluid in carburetor and crank does it fire?if it does then you most likely need to clean carburetor with carburetor cleaning spray, flush fuel lines with spray and swap fuel filter.

Need carb setting wont idle runs in spurts

There is usually a sticker with a craftsman Model Number on it, often "358.Something". That number can be used to find an IPL and if you are lucky an OM here: Sears PartsDirect http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action Start at 1.5 CCW from lightly seated then tune for performance like this:
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com
http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20carb%20tune.htm
CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.

There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full – may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too. HTH

Oil blowing out of exhaust

Run it out, The oil has collect in the exhaust media and baffles. Iver fill can cause this proble. As long as it has oil in it, run it out (burn it out) If the oil is low when you ck it, and that should be often, Then note it. Valve guide wear is progressive and the engine would smoke. Keep the oil level proper and take it on a mellow ride, no hard throttling. You should see an improvement after about 20 miles down the freewayat 60. Just stay alertand pay attention to the sound of the motor. Good luck and let me know when you get back.
