Question about 2007 Honda VT 750 Shadow

1 Answer

I changed the oil in my honda shadow vt750c. everything was great until i checked the oil while the engine was running. out came the dipstick, made so noise (air sucking), quickly realizing my mistake i put the dipstick back in. off cut the engine! i pulled the dip stick back out and the end of my metal dipstick is gone. there she sits until I can figure this one out. What to do next? I have a flex magnet. What I have done so far, I placed a magnet in the dip stick hole. Is is worth removing the oil and trying the magnet in the oil pan if it piece doesn't come out? Is the piece ''stuck'' in the gear?

Pull off the right side cover( you may have to buy a gasket, if your careful you can reuse the old one like the cycle shops that reuse the old one and charge you for the gasket.) You should be able to retrieve the metal piece once the cover is off.

2006 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 oil pressure issues

Hi, Anonymous you may have a faulty sending unit to check for normal engine oil pressure, make sure the engine oil level is between the add and full marks on the dipstick. Remove the oil pressure sending unit, located on the right engine case, behind the oil filter mounting bracket, and replace/plum/or rig with a known good mechanical gauge that reads 0 to 40/50 lbs. Start the engine and run it until the engine oil reaches the normal operating temperature of 230 degrees. At 1,000 RPM, the oil pressure should be 2 to 4 lbs. at 2,000 RPM the oil pressure should be 30 to 38 lbs. How to check the oil on a 2005 VT 750 shadow oil stick level or kick stand

Hi, Anonymous many riders are over filling their oil system because they do not know how to properly read their oil site glass or dipstick. The following procedure works on nearly all 4 stroke engines but to be on the safe side you should refer to your owners manual. Use your center stand if you have one.
1. Bring the engine up to operating temperature or let idle for 5 minutes.
2. Turn off your engine and let it sit for 2 minutes, this will allow the oil from the top end to drain to the bottom.
3. Hold your bike straight up or on the center stand and wait 2 minutes for the oil in the bottom of the engine to be level in the sight glass or on the dipstick.
4. Your oil level should be between the top full mark and the bottom add mark.
5. Never over fill your oil system it will cause problems:
a. oil leaking out of exhaust pipes.
b. oil leaking out of breather pipe/hose.
c. oil carryover into the air cleaner.
6. Your oil site glass must "NEVER" be completely full or empty drain or add oil as necessary.
7. Your oil dipstick must "NEVER" be over the full mark and should never be below the add mark drain or add oil as needed.

Gas and oil in honda shadow air box

Hi, Anonymous you're getting ready to go riding you pull out the dipstick to check your oil level and are greeted with the unmistakable smell of gasoline. What happens next depends on the following:
1. You have experienced this before and do not start the engine but do change your oil and filter leaving it 1 quart low until the engine reaches operating temperature then top off as necessary.
2. The amount of time your bike has been sitting since the last time the engine was running.
3. The amount of gas and contaminants in the tank.
4. The oil pump location, exterior or interior.
5. The condition of your petcock gasket/seal/diaphragm.
If your gas tank was low and you start the engine probably nothing you would notice but if your gas tank was full and you start your engine the oil/gas mixture can blow into your air filter, come streaming out of your crankcase breather hose, and launch your oil tank cap followed by a blast of oil. The mess can be minor or you need to call a Hazmat team for assistance. This will also happen if you overfill your oil tank.
Next is the how and why gas can get into your oil tank/system:
a. The vacuum petcock rubber/diaphragm fails, which allows gas to flow from the fuel tank through the petcock, through the vacuum line into the intake manifold, then into the combustion chamber, where it seeps past the piston rings and into the bottom end.
3. Nonvacuum petcocks that are not turned to the off position will patiently wait until contaminants from the gas tank build up in between the carburetor needle and seat breaking the seal thus inviting gas to enter the combustion chamber eventually finding it's way into the bottom end and the oil tank.
4. Bottom line if you're not going to ride your bike for a while turn off the petcock.
