Weak fire on pocket bike

Hi, I do a lot with these bikes, I think if you are getting a weak spark there is a couple things to check. First, do you understand how it builds the power to create the spark? The magnet in the flywheel has to be very close to the magnito or coil, if the gap is too much it will cause a weak spark, if the magnet is weak, weak spark, if the coil is shorting internally, weak spark. If the plug wire is damaged, weak spark. I hope this helps you.

I have a 81 sportster xls-rode about 60 miles today then it died-check plugs looked ok but spark looked a little weak-put back in and started--drove another couple miles and died agian-this time did not...

Check coil(s), capacitors, Points(if any). Are the Plugs the correct ones for the bike? Replace with new ones and be certain they are correctly gapped. Also, look for an intermittent ground problem, loose wiring, etc.
Good Luck!

Hello, I have a problem with an intermittent &

sounds like you have a poor earth connection, possibly between the coil and the frame, try quickly rigging up a cable from the mounting point on the coil, to a bare metal part of the bike (or nagative battery terminal if available), and try again.
Hope this helps

Good compression, good spark, clean filter, new clean gas. Bike backfires and won't start.

2 things it could be...the coil!!....as these do have probs.they break down..make a spark but not enuf to fire the bike up...or could be the windings/genaratior/ ...i would look at coil 1st....as its cheaper to replace than windings!!...hope this helps...Howard

Weak spark

new battery in itturning over nicely after chasing down a few bad grounds but have very weak spark.I had cam2 in it even and couldnt get it to fire.I suspect coils or possiblly grounds still .Question iswhere can I get these electrical parts for the bike?(dont all answer at once now...)I think I need pickups for the bike as well but am going from memory on that one.ThanksHave you tried changing the ground from the coils to go straight to the frame and NOT through the sidestand cutout? I don't trust that little fella. I've rewired mine so it kills the satrter motor instead - can't start the bike with the sidestand down - and as I never get off the bike leave the engine running with the sidestand it's not a problem. It does mean though that if the switch gives problems (i.e. in the wet) it does not kill the engine.,,,
