Question about Harley Davidson FLHTCUI Electra Glide Ultra Classic Motorcycles
Check the output of your voltage regulator. You'll need a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter). Start the bike and put the red lead of the meter on the positive post of the battery, black on the negative post. Put the meter in the DC , 50 volt range. Idle the engine up and read the voltage across the battery. It should be between 14.5 and 14.7 volts. If it's not, your alternator or regulator is bad.
First, I would have my battery tested at a local automotive store. They'll usually do this free of charge. Batteries have a very hard life in a motorcycle and their lives are usually only about two years. Running the load test of the battery is the only way to tell if you're having a cell short out under a load.
If you want to test your alternator, unplug the regulator were it plugs into the engine case near the front of the engine. Pur you DVOM, in AC volts 50 volt range. Since your bike is equpped with an alternator, the output is Alternating Current, AC. It makes no difference which meter lead goes to which pin in the plug in the engine case. Start the engine and bring it to a high idle. 2000-2500 rpm. You should be reading about 30 volts or so. Any lower than 12 volts, you stator is bad. Make sure you've got your meter in the right voltage range and type.
Good Luck, Steve

Check the battery voltage , should be over 12v with the engine stopped and 13-14v with the engine running, or it may just need a new flasher can, make sure the bulbs are all coming on including the dash and they are the correct wattage for the bike
