If you can pull the rubber cover off the solenoid you will see two nuts that are the cable terminals, short across these with a screwdriver or similar(may make a spark) if this causes the starter to turn you probably need a solenoid. You could also try a multi meter or test light on the terminal to the starter, it should have power when you press the start button, if not , new solenoid. to change it disconnect the battery , undo the two cable nuts, and follow the other wire back to its connecter

I have a KYMCO 4 wheeler. WIll not start and when I check voltage to starter solenoid switch, I only get about 10 volts, yet battery is fully charged

does it crank at all , if not then ck and make sure you battery is good , do you have a bad wire, if your wire is long you will always lose volts which is normal , but does it crank over , if not then try jump starting it with a car or something unless you have a good battery charger which will work just as well ,are you getting voltage when you crank it from the other side of the solenoid if not you have a bad solenoid , has to crank or it will never start ,

Hello, I have a 2003 dr650se and it wont start using the electric start. it will bump start and run fine until you kill the motor then it wont start it just clicks. the battery is fine. is there a cut

I think your bike has 2 anti start switches the side stand and the clutch lever. You state it bump starts runs fine then clicks when you try to restart. The clicking is the starter solenoid which would indicate the battery has not enough cranking power to turn the starter motor. Check battery voltage must be above 12.5. remove battery (undo negative lead first). Wire a 21 watt bulb to the battery and see if it dims within a small period of time. If it remains bright try charging the battery only use a dedicated bike charger (less than 1 amp out put). Do not use a car charger ever. When the battery is fully charged refit to bike (refit positive lead first). Try to start the bike again. If it fails to start bump start it and check the voltage across the battery is should be about 14 to 14.5 volts. If low volts at the battery with the engine running your charging circuit is not working correctly. If the volts are good I would try another battery. They sometimes give false reading to chargers when a cell or 2 short out.

Check the wiring between the relay and the starter. Make sure the nothing is loose. It might also be that your starter maybe bad. Good luck, hope that was some help.

My 88 honda shadow vt800 will not crank just clicking has brand new battery

cross the solonoid, connect the 2 large bolts (it will spark) if it turns the starter, you know the starters fine. then could be solonoid, wiring or button, check for corrosion

2008 honda cbr 600rr won't start a clicking sound from the starter solenoid relay

Sounds like a bad solenoid...BUT - Make SURE the battery is fully charged!! - using a short screwdriver CAREFULLY jump the two big main threaded studs on the solenoid ..(wire from battery stud and the stud with wire going to the starter)(sparks WILL FLY so don't do this near open gas containers or fumes!!) .. when you jump the solenoid - if it tries to start, its the solenoid... IF not.. you need to check all the connections, have the battery checked by a battery shop to see if the amperage is up to snuff..(you can have 12+ volts but no amperage to push the voltage).. this would indicate a bad battery.
Do this, repost the results.

Clicking on start up, battery fully charged, headlight flickers, fuel pump starts then clicks, no start

check battery voltage while cranking, check battery leads and earth wire, sometimes a fully charged battery, if its getting old, still will not start the bike, will it start with jumper leads? The clicking is usually low voltage.

When I push the starter button the solenoid clicks, starter does nothing.if I cross the 2 threaded bolts that extend out from the solenoid the starter engages? I just replaced the solenoid and at first it...

Just because it's new, doesn't mean it works.
This is why cars get recalled.

The iron-clan test of a non-working solenoid is to cross the relay terminals. If you do and it starts.. it's bad.

Take it back. you purchased a dud. It happens.

Battery is charged but when you try to start you get click noise at the solonoid

Witch solonoid? the one on the passenger fender or the starter its self? Make sure batt terminals are clean. If you have a test light, test wire at starter(key wire) and see if it lights up when key is in start position. The main wire from battery should be tight as well at the starter too.

My honda quad wont start on the button

Sounds like a bad button to me. Put an ohmmeter on it and see if you get continuity in the wires when the button is pressed, and no continuity when you release the button. If the button is ok then you have a bad connection somewhere between the button and the starter. Check inside the headlight housing.

Please rate this solution as a " FixYa " if able. Thanks!
