Try spraying with Belt dressing or even try using plain water to see if it disappear then using proper belt lubricant to maintain it. Good?

Can i install a gas gauge on a suzuki 1996 savage?

No that is not possible, it never came with one and there is no kit made by anyone to install a gauge. Since this bike had very low production numbers no one ever offered a kit of any kind.

I had the same prob with my 97, It was not the head gasket but the O-ring on top of the head. Replaced the O-ring and has been running good for a year now with no backfire. Hope this helps.

1996 Suzuki Savage 650, engine knocks

knocking increases with engine speed ...check for worn wrist pin to piston clearance, rod bottom bearing clearance, very unlikely the timing chain has any kinks with a chain tensioner set properly...a loose chain could make some noise so check the tension setting
