Question about 2005 Yamaha V Star Classic
Hi, Mtd420 for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. Leather Lyke has the hard bags and the relocator included. Pics are on their site. J&P has a better lay down tag bracket with signal relocator for the Sporty. Harley usually relocates the signal to thelast hole of the fender strut with a smaller signal post but due to the limited lenght on the Sporty most relocate to the tag bracket. It is an easy job with a couple of wrenches an Allen wrench and a soldering iron to rerout the wiring a bit.

You may want to visit the dealer....I think you may be missing the installation kit. Oh yeah you buy the backrest and then you gotta buy the installation kit also. Just check, hope it works out.

You do need brackets OR solid bags. Standard brackets can be recommended by the shop where you purchase. The brackets keep the bags out of the wheel and off the fender. ( I really wanted the real leather ... but I settled for the synthetic leather. $400 difference)
You might pay a little more at the Honda shop but there will be no quibbling about this or that. They know your bike and what will fit.
You can buy at other motorcycle shops but the stuff at the Honda shop is there to fit Hondas.

From the back there is an upper center screw. Below that there is a metal brace that hooks over the side bars. There is a cover in the middle that covers 2 additional screws. Remove all three and it should come off.
