Question about 1996 Suzuki VS 1400 Intruder

1 Answer

Suzuki Intruder 1400 1996, First to Second Gear is harsh!

Hello. I have noticed that my Intruder with 4300 miles on it is beginning to have gear shift problems! My sibling had it in the garaqe for a while. I rehabbed the fluids and had been riding it well when it became very difficult to shift from 1st to 2nd. ( I would have to double clutch) Also, when shifted into 1st it creeps. Sometimes during shifting the lever will not return to position and I have to jiggle with foot. What's up? Clutch adjustment? Master - slave cyclinder issues? Bad gear box? I'm stymied.

Change the fluid in the clutch reservoir, bleed out the remaining fluid.(keep it full as you go) Should be dot 4 fluid not dot 3. U may need to rebuild the master cylinder or replace it.

You could have a shop check pump pressure - usually the cause is a weak pump or problems with the valve body.
Chances are if you just sit in drive at idle, it will also move on its own in a couple of minutes once the fluid warms up.
I never recommend changing fluid after 100k.

Hi, Dvdjackson52 if you can access all gears with the engine not running your probably ok and the clutch adjustment just needs some fine tuning for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere zero $ you can download another one. For more information about your issue and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the blue links below. Good luck and have a wonderful day.

1998 damon intruder fuel pump issues?

I have a 96 which had issues with the original ford pump at 28,000 miles. It would shut down after about 200 miles of continuous running in the high elevations. Col, and Wyom. Solution was to replace ford gear fuel pump with an after market turbin pump. According to the tech from the western states that this is common with high alt. and high temp running. ( have not had a problem new pump)

You could change the fluid, but I'd pay more attention to bleeding the system a few times.

It also sounds like the clutch slave cylinder seals are worn/perished. You might need to look into having these replaced, as it could be allowing the clutch to seep fluid stopping the hydraulic (vacuum) affect.

Vote for me if this helps, thanks.

Best engine oil for 98 1500LC 11,000 miles, Shifts hard

Up shifting CLUNK on a shaft drive motorcycle is caused by all the drive line slop. Don't tap the shifter with your foot when you shift. Try putting gentle pressure on the lever with your foot, then pull the clutch and shift the gear. This technique should eliminate the CLUNK.

Hello. Begin at an AAMCO transmission shop if there is one near by. They now offer a free computer scan which may pin point your problem. Otherwise take it to any reputable transmission shop. This is not a do it yourself job I assure you. Begin by calling AAMCO or another local tranny shop. Joe

How do I know if am getting good mileage?

Pull the tank and unscrew the fuel petcock to look at the screens on the fuel intakes. If there is crud on the screen it might not feed after a certain level (75 miles) and runs ok when feeding from the Res intake. Easy job don't be afraid to tackle it. Easier if the tank is near empty to begin with.

Shifting problem 96 1400 Intruder 4 speed

Yes, the bad news is bent shift forks. The engine comes out and dissassembles into about 75 different parts. The gears come out, the the shift drum, then the forks. Not a job for the Saturday mechanic.
