Bmw k1200rs laid up for 6 yrs-how do i get it onroad safely?
BMW k1200rs 3500 miles off road garaged 6 years. What do I need to do to get on road safely. Battery not disconnected so flat. Petrol still in tank and oil not drained.

Dump the gas tank out, put fresh gas in. Put a new battery. Try to get it started. Run it for a min., then change oil. Test your brakes and check your tires.

Depending on the year of your K1200RS, the speedo signal is derived from a sensor on the final drive (rear) of the bike. Check the wiring to the sensor for damge etc. The speedo itself could be defective as well. You will need to test the sensor and associated wiring first to determine if there is a pulse output going to the speedo.
