Dumping oil out of generator breather tube

1976 sportster. Put a new battery in a bike that I acquired that was supposedly rebuilt only 2k miles ago. I cranked it over a few times and fuel is running out of the carb over flow and oil is coming from the breather that is on the generator. Why is there oil coming from there? The battery wasnt fully charged (didnt want to wait the 30 hours for it to charge) so it was turning over slowly. Any ideas?

Check the oil level, if the fuel runs freely to the carb and runs out it may have filled your crank case with fuel. turning it over with less power than it needs will ruin the starter, battery cables and start relay. Anyhow, if crank case is flooded with fuel clean carb to remove trash,so the float can do its job.Change oil,and air filter, clean sparkplugs. OK if i took a wrong turn stay with me, check pistons for compression. If piston is cracked or the rings are bad or not set, pressure from the piston could escape into the crankcase and blow oil out anywhere.Good luck Mr.Schnot.

91Harley FLH, OIL pouring out of breather tube . Whats problem?

Has the bike been sitting for a while? If so, I may have "sumped". This means that oil from the oil tank flowed past the check ball in the oil pump and flowed into the bottom of the crankcase. If the oil level is low, there is a good chance this is what happened. Only way to get the oil out of the crankcase is to run the bike until all the oil is pumped out thru the breather. Place a pan under the breather hose to catch the oil. Eieset way to solve this problem in the future is to place a clamp on the feel line that goes from the oil tank to the pump. Don't run the bike with the clamp in place! Hope this helps.

My 2009 1200L sportster leaks oil out the air filter every 2000-3000 miles. It blows onto my exhaust and higher up. I've had my rocker boxes replaced(warranty issue) THREE TIMES- could this be rela

The problem is the the air breathers inside the rocker covers. Sad to say,but nearly all of them do this. One solution is to take off the air filter cover. There should be two bolts..(one on each side of the inside of the housing) that SHOULD have hoses hooked to them. If they do not have the hoses hooked to them, then that is your problem. See,these bolts are hollow, and have a nipple on the ends of them. These allow the top end to "breathe",a crankcase pressure relief if you will.Anyway,..these nipples are SUPPOSED to have a small hose on each of them, that re-direct the oil/crankcase pressure, into the carb/throttle body, which eliminates the oil running into your air filter housing.Check to make sure they are in fact there, and let me know what you find.

VOLVO V50 OIL ON CAMSHAFT COVER

I will try and simplify the problem. I have an oil leak, which I traced up the back of the engine to the cylinder head area.
When I removed the top plastic cover on top of the coil packs I found oil in every recess next to the coil packs. The crankcase breather pipe was also off. The source of the leak is not evident, but it is definetely above the cylinder head gasket area.

I had this problem on my 2011, I called a dealer and asked about it. I simply overfilled the oil. Supposed to check the oil level when it's hot not cold. Idle it for 15 min then check the oil level like the manual says.

FUEL ISSUES WITH CARB..

the only thing i can suggest, is a sticky needle and seat, if fuel is coming out the over flow, then the float is not shutting off the fuel running into the carb, it has to go some where, so it comes out the overflow. Pressure in the tank wont have any affect at all with your problem. I would take apart the carby again, and check and clean the needle and seat.
Hope this helps

Excessive smoke

after winter the oil comming out of the breather tube is normal as the bike has been sitting for a while (I own a 1980 since 87) i also had evolution valve stem seals put in the valve guides, as it is normal for a shovel to burn a liter of oil per 1000km, but with the newer valve stem seals, hardly any oil burns

74' TX500, High idle and White smoke from breather tube

When the carb was rebuilt it was only bench tuned. It is always wise to tune them once installed. the smoke may stop after the carbs are adjusted. However white or light colored smoke is always an indication of oil. It sounds like you may have a small leak. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I recently added a kuryakyn hypercharger on my sportster

The worm clamp proly did choke off the breather. Usually when oil comes out of your breathers it means there is to much oil in your oil tank.

Oil blow out the breather

This is a common problem on all sportsters, they have an oil blow by that dumps it into the air filter. I have found that if I run about a half quart low the problem goes away.
