How do I drain the gas tank on a 1981Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe pick-up truck?

your typical square body gm trucks from 73-87 do not have drains in the gas tanks " Unless someone added one themselves". The only way to drain the fuel is to run a hose into the tank itself and try to syphon out the remaining fuel into a container using a hose , or a small syphon pump from an auto part store. Being a 1981 model that means it is equiped with a mechanical pump . One alternative is to disconnect the inlet hose that attatches to the mechanical pump and attach a cheap 12 volt electric pump from the part store . You can then pump the fuel out using the existing line .

Whta can couse the gas pump to stop pumpin while pumping gas in my car

a. There is a Restriction in the Filler Neck of the Vehicle
b. VENT TUBE is twisted and not allowing the Air to escape as the Gas goes into the Tank.

This happen to one of my customers and could not figure it out. Then I said "Let ME SEE".... So I disconnected the Filler Neck off the vehicle and found that someone put a Plastic Bag into the Filler neck and jammed it all the way down to the Tank...

I removed the Partly Melted Bag, reinstalled the Filler Neck and worked perfect

How to remove harley road king gas tank fuel 2005 model

I have a 2008 Road King Classic (and have had the tank off), so maybe they're similar.
Disconnect the negative lead of the battery.

My dash has a screw under the nose of the seat (which must be removed) and one in the front.
lift dash and unplug harness.

If you have a gas gauge in the left hand gas cap, underneath tank unplug it's connector.

The fuel line has a quick disconnect. Pull fitting, and line unplugs.
There is a check valve inside to keep gas from leaking, but it's a good idea to have a catch cup, just in case some residual fuel flows out.

From there, I have a bolt on each side of the front of the tank, one in the center rear, then lift it off.

I need to find the fuel filter

On a carb model, a lot of times there is an inline filter in the line from the gas tank to the carb, so follow your gas line down.

BUT, a lot of times, there is no inline filter, and the only thing you have is a filter screen attached to the top of the fuel shutoff (petcock) inside the gas tank.
The only way to access is to drain gas tank and remove petcock,

Removed gas tank guard now won't start

Overtime, Jeep Grand Cherokee fuel tanks develop rust and accumulate sediment. This is especially true if the tank sits empty for a period of time. Rust and sediment can break loose and cause clogged filters. When the filter is clogged, the engine does not receive the amount of fuel required to operate. The fuel tank can be cleaned out; however, replacing the tank is easier.
  • 1 Apply the parking brake.

  • 2 Remove the gas cap.

  • 5 Turn the ignition to "Off." Install the fuel pump relay.
  • 6 Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
  • 7 Lift the fuel tank into position, using the jack.

8 Attach the fuel filler hose and vapor return hose to the fuel tank.Tighten the clamps with a Phillips screwdriver.

  • 9 Pivot the fuel tank retaining straps into position. Tighten the fuel tank retaining strap nuts with a socket and ratchet. Lower the jack.

  • 10 Connect the fuel pump electrical connector, the fuel filter line and the fuel return line. Push the fuel line retainer into the chassis.
  • 11 Raise the heat shield. Install the mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts with a socket and ratchet.

Will not rev up in gear sat a long time

More than likely the carb is gummed up, you can try some carb cleaner in the gas tank, but more than likely it will have to be removed and cleaned out. Sorry. Try something called "Sea-Foam" in the gas tank as well if the carb cleaner does not work, then go to the removal.

It sounds like they pinched the vent tube under the tank. There is a hose connected to the bottom of the tank that runs to the bottom of the bike. It allows air to enter the tank so you don't get vapor lock from the motor sucking fuel. You'll need to take the tank off and make sure the lines aren't pinching anywhere. I would call the mechanic and make him fix it and any damages to the tank.
