Question about 2001 Harley Davidson FLSTC - FLSTCI Heritage Classic

I got spark to the spark plug and I'm getting gas to the engine and it still won't start is there a safety switch some where that i may not know a bout? Model #917377070 craftsman lawn mower 6.5hp

Im a motorcycle mechanic however Ido have a little knowledge of these machines I believe ther is a safety switch under the seat & in some cases in the seat itself

there may be safety switches, but if you are getting a spark, that is not the problem. After you cranked with no start, is the spark plug wet with gas? can you smell gas in the cylinder after pulling the plug? It could be that your carb float/needle valve are stuck closed. Try lightly tapping the side or the carb.

MY MOWER WILL TURN OVER BUT IT WILL NOT START


if you spark a little starting fluid to it does it fire?if so then fuel is the problem then is the gas older than 30 days dump it out and try fresh gas if new gas then open the carb and clean it if it does not fire on starting fluid check for spark if no spark pull the top cover from the engine and look for wiring damage unplug the coil from the engine side of the coil and check for spark if no spark then the coil is bad and if its a riding mower the carb might have a anti back fire valve that could stick closed

If this is a sudden occurrence and nothing suspicious happened prior, you most likely lost either gas or spark to the engine. You need to check for both.

Do you hear the fuel pump in the gas tank buzz on for a couple of seconds when you turn the ignition key to ON? Unless the fuel pump turns on and puts gas under high pressure at the fuel injectors, the engine cylinders won't get gas to start. Correct fuel pressure is crucial to know if you have a fuel pump (or fuel filter) problem. If the pressure is correct, it is probably not a fuel problem but a spark problem, although there are less common instances where a fuel injector circuit may malfunction.

The ignition system not producing spark at the spark plugs is the other common problem of no starts. Buy a cheap spark tester at a parts store, plug it into one of your spark plug wires, then crank the engine over and watch for a strong blue spark. You might need a helper to do this. If you see a consistent spark, the ignition system is probably good, although you should probably check more than just one plug wire-sometimes one bad ignition coil in a coil pack will cause no starting. 1993 chevy caprice classic wagon 5.0 8 cylinder hads a problem with engine shutting off with in seconds after start ! i did check for vapor lock in gas line, had new spark plugs replace, new fule...


Think the oil pressure switch keeps the fuel pump running once started. Suggest replacing Oil pressure switch. And no it won't effect oil pressure reading when it goes bad. The switch is a safety device. When you roll it over and the oil pressure drops the switch cuts off the fuel pump. Neat huh? Need some good feedback Thanks!

Have you checked all your safety switches? Kill switch, kickstand switch, neutral switch? What do the plugs look like---are they wet and smell like gas? Are you getting a nice blue spark across the electrode? Troubleshoot the basic stuff first to eliminate those possibilites.

First, spend 1.50 for some starting fluid at WalMart.
Spray it into the carb air filter and try to start it again.

If it fires and runs for a few seconds, you have a clogged gas filter (in the gas tank) or a bad fuel line or a dirty carb. You can try adding a small amount (1/2 ounce) of carb cleaner to the gas a see if that gets the dirt our....

No spark


The selonoid on bottom of carburetor shuts off gas,if bad it will not get gas,It was installed mostly do to engines back firing when shut down this seloniod shuts off gas to main jet so there is no gas in carburetor during shutdown,no gas in cylinder no backfire.
