Question about 1973 Yamaha RD 250
You can cut the wires at side stand and wind them togeather and then check for spark

The side stand switch will not stop this from sparking.
Why are you using a powervalve genny and flywheel with an older DX set up, for starters the pick up's are not gonna work as the DX is battery points ignition unless it's an E model but still the pulse generator which signals the capacitor in the cdi to fire is still in a different position, not quite sure why you are doing this but would be interested to know why and what the remedy was.
