How to change gearbox and engine oil

There is a sump plug located at the bottom of the engine. It is very tight. Make sure you have the correct size socket to remove the plug. Use a suitable oil pan under the bike before removing the plug. Once the plug is removed and the oil is drained, stand the bike upright to get the last of the oil out. Get the correct oil, about 1 litre, replace the plug and fill the bike to the correct level using a funnel. Stand the bike upright to check oil level. Do not screw oil dip stick in to test the level.

Is my Ducati monster796 is burning. Oil?

Hello Barak,
Are you checking the oil with the bike on the side stand or upright. If you fill it on the side stand then you will over fill it and oil will burn and leak. Oil in the center of the window with the bike straight upright is normal.

Oil light keeps coming on..checked my oil level kick stand down..shows full..cked. with bike standing level..same..sensor out on the panel or maybe time to change oil and filter

I would say it's the sensor, most bikes only read the oil level, they can't tell if the oil needs to be changed, that's something that your supposed to keep track of.

Do you check the gear box oil level when the bike is on the stand or up right

Always upright, if it is checked on the stand then it may give a false reading, and you may over or under fill the gearbox. Manufacturers state this as they can not control the angle of what you stand the bike against, but all bikes will be the same when standing.

While egine hot or cold, bike position, should the dip stick be screw all the way in or not?

check oil hot, and as far as if it should be on kick stand or not can easily be determined by the dipstick, the rule is if the dipstick moves from side to side then check it on the kick stand, if the dipstick is solid then check it upright. the dipstick should always be screwed all the way in and then take it out to check fluid level. I hope this helps you.

Kick stand safety shut down, once bike warms up it shuts off if kick stand is down

The bike is supposed to shut down if the kick stand is down. It is a safety feature designed to prevent starting out with the stand down, which can be very inconvenient on your first left turn. If you are saying the bike runs with the stand down when cold, then the switch must be in need of adjustment. Please rate my answer.

I just purchased a ktm 450 exc ....... I have just been on a 300km ride over 2 days. (I had oil done before I left even though I only had 135km on it) Looking at the sight glass re the engine oil it...

with the bike standing on it's wheels and held upright. Be sure to give the oil time to run through the crankcase when you stand it up. Next time you change oil, don't go by the bubble. Read your manual and measure out the correct amount to add.

Checking the Oil

Hi George,
Excellent description of your problem, I presume you are keeping the bike upright when checking the level on your dipstick?
I remember on some Honda's there used to be a Sight glass set in the Gearbox casing a small round Window with level marks up either side so when bike held upright the glass should be half full.
George! you should be able to see oil on the stick without running the bike so keep upright and top up as necessary.
Hope this helped, please remember to rate my effort?
