Question about kawasaki Ninja 250R Motorcycles

Wont run floods out

I have a 06 ninja 500r with stage 3 jets kn air filter and a tappered key to advance timing also dd slip on mufflers i ran fine when parked in fall this spring wont run like it floods itself out cleaned carbs even put back in stock jets still will not run what could be my problem

Im trying to put my vulcan 500 carbs on a ninja 500r it runs for a few min then wont start again till next day is it carb adjustment or valve adjustment i need to do


Hi, Jason and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Fuel line to carburetor or throttle body pinched or kinked.
8. Carburetor float stuck.
9. Fuel injectors clogged.
10. Severely discharged or damaged battery, you need 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
11. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
12. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
13. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or sensors (MAP, CMP, CKP, O2, TPS, ETP, IAC,or BAS).
14. Faulty neutral, clutch lever, or kickstand safety switch.
15. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
16. Faulty CDI box if applicable.
17. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
18. Security system not disarming alarm needs a reset.

Hi, Steiner if you have changed your fuel delivery system, air filter size or flow rate, mufflers or exhaust system your carburetors need re-tuning and if your fuel system (gas tank, filters, fuel valve and carburetor) is contaminated with ethanol sludge, varnish, rust, dirt, water etc. or your bike has been sitting for months or years without running these components must be "PROPERLY" cleaned and reassembled "CORRECTLY" before any adjustments can be made. Tuning your carburetor is fairly simple once you understand the basic principals. You engine is a simple airbox sucking air in and blowing it out, it is finely tuned at the factory for maximum performance once you upset that delicate balance by changing air filters, camshafts or exhaust systems your performance may go down the and the engine may run poorly, you need to compensate the air-fuel mixture in the carburetor in order for the engine to run smoothly and at peak performance. If you are running multi carburetors you need to sync them first and make sure your air cleaner element is clean and dry for paper elements or lightly oiled for foam and meshed elements and properly installed. Here is how and where you compensate trouble: "TIP" if your engine "BOGS" your not getting enough fuel.
1. Closed to 1/8 throttle is managed by the air screw and pilot/slow jet.
2. 1/8 to 1/4 throttle is managed by the air-screw, pilot/slow jet, and throttle slide.
3. 1/4 to 1/2 throttle is managed by the throttle slide and jet needle.
4. 1/2 to 3/4 throttle is managed by the jet needle, needle jet, main jet, and air jet.
5. 3/4 to wide open throttle is managed by the main jet and air jet.
6. Wide open throttle is managed by the main jet.
If you are running lean, spark plug electrode color is white, engine runs hot and feels like it is starving for fuel you need to go up on the jet size or move the c-clip down one notch. If you are running rich, spark plug color is black or dark gray, engine runs cool, and bogs down when accelerating you need to go down on jet size or move the c-clip up one notch. When your carburetor is properly tuned for maximum performance your spark plug electrode will be a light tan color like coffee with cream. If you prefer fuel economy over performance you can go down on main jet sizes until a satisfactory level of lower performance is acceptable versus MPH, your spark plug color will be whiter and your engine will run warmer. These tuning adjustments will only make improvements if your intake and exhaust system have no air leaks or sealing issues and the entire electrical system is in proper working order and you have no mechanical issues. I have A 1988 Virago 1100 With Cobra Mufflers and The Carbs Are Jetted with A cobra I stage Kit And The Fuel Air Mix Screws are new It Cranks And Runs But Black Smoke Is Comming out of the Pipes Whats


Sounds like you need to take it to a shop that kinda knows what they are doing. If they have problems they can call cobra themselves. As a shop the aftermarket companies are usually pretty good about helping out since most of their product is sold or installed in aftermarket shops. With that being said. I would start by dropping the clips up one notch and see how that works. By sliding it up one notch it should run a little leaner . If it's better but doesn't cure the problem then go up one more. If it does clear up the black smoke then there you go. Generally cobra will tell you in the directions what common jets to install. They even have a section for higher elevations as well. If not in the directions they usually do on their website. Hope this helps a little.

Hi, Melvin for openers you need to seek out an experienced professional technician that knows what he's doing, this isn't rocket science and Dyno's are a waste of time, money, and are brutal on your engine and if there is a catastrophic engine failure while on the Dyno guess who pays for a rebuild or a new engine, here's a little hint it won't be the Dyno operator or the company he represents. I have been in the motorcycle business 35 years and worked on thousands of bikes and never once needed a Dyno to help diagnose a performance issue.

1997 ninja bike carburator keeps flooding how do i fix it


The reason it is flooding out is your BOWL FLOAT Needle SEAT is not closing it off. You need to clean your CARB and change out your Needle if it is not working properly.

Rebuilt carbs runs rich pops 1/4 throttle changed jets still have problems with popping but runs great when on throttle


check ur air/fuel mixture screw...turn all the way to the left and count the turns and let me know what u come up with example....1 1/4 turns 2 1/5 turns

Hi,just got a dynojet stage 1/3 kit for my 1980 honda cb650, it's on standard air box, but 4 into 1 exhaust, I take it I should use the stage one kit. Also I have no instructions can you help...


Intended for motorcycles with a stock engine using the stock airbox, air filter and stock pipe. Stage 1 kits are fully adjustable to allow the use of a well designed aftermarket pipes and stock replacement air filters like K&N. Stage 1 kits are designed to improve throttle response and driveability and in most cases power increases of approximately 5% throughout the entire power range can be achieved.


STAGE ONE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Remove the vacuum slide from the carbs. Remove the stock needles & spacers, noting the order of
assembly. Locate the slide lift holes (Fig. A), with the slide drill DD# 14 supplied, enlarge your slide lift
holes. The picture may not show your slide exactly, enlarge your slide lift hole or holes depending on your
model. Do not drill any new lift holes. Do not drill the needle hole.
2. Install Dynojet needles on groove #4, using all stock spacers. Install the Dynojet washers (2 per
needle) above the E-clip.
3. Remove the stock main jets and replace with the Dynojet main jets provided. If you are running with
stock exhaust, use the DJ110 main jets. With an aftermarket header or slip-on with high flowing baffles,
use the DJ116 main jets. Be sure that the jets you are changing are the main jets.
4. Locate the fuel mixture plug (Fig. B), if you see a screw head, proceed to adjusting procedure. With the
DD #5/32 drill bit provided, carefully drill thru the plugs. Note: the mixture screw is directly underneath this
plug, be ready to pull back on the drill the instant you break thru. Use screw provided to secure and
remove the plug. Carefully turn mixture screws clockwise until they seat, turn out 3 turns.

I just got a 98 ninja 250. It sat for the last 6 months to a year but ran well before it was parked I'm told. Now it wont stay running without the choke on. Any ideas?


Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The carbs would need to be pulled down, soaked in cleaner and thoroughly cleaned specially the idling jets. The air filter would also require attention, either check/clean or replace. Of course the gas has to be replaced, the tank checked/cleaned with attention to the fuel filter/petc0ck assembly. Check the fuel hoses and the vacuum line for signs of cracks, split ends.
