My 1993 GMC 1/2 ton truck stopped suddenly and will not start.

The first thing I thought was electronic control module (no spark). Towed it home and it has lots of spark. I took the inlet line off from the throttle body and turned on the key and no fuel come out of the line from the tank.I could not hear the pump running in the tank, so I hooked an inline electric fuel pump between the carb and the fuel line from the tank. Still would not go. When I pour gas into the thottle body the engine will fire and run untill the gas is gone.

The inline will not work,it can not get fuel threw the fuel pump in the tank, the fuel tank has to be removed, and the fuel pump changed out.

Ignition control module issues

A relative of mine has a '97 GMC 1500. 2 years ago I spent several weeks chasing gremlins on it. Replaced everything - plugs, wires, ICM, TPS, and some other items. How many miles on your truck? It should fire within 1 to 3 turns of starter engagement. I have to ask, how do you know there is no spark or fuel when the engine does not start? Have you checked fuel pressure? Our trouble ended up being the fuel pump. We pulled the bed off the truck and found that the lines and wires at the top of the tank were severely rusting and eroding. I would have never guessed this kind of degradation due to the fact that the truck is so well taken care of. Check your fuel pump and tank thoroughly. Also check the tank filler neck and vent. If it runs for 15 minutes then quits, sounds like the fuel pump might be cutting out. Will not hurt to check and may save you time under the hood. I have poured over those electrical diagrams for the GMC. Alot of things tied into keeping those engines going nowadays. Let me know how things work out. GC.

You need fuel, spark at the right time, and compression for the engine to run.
You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem if the compression is ok.
The list includes low fuel pressure, cap-rotor-wires, spark plugs, coil, ignition module, various relays and fuses, and the computer.
Even the key switch could be faulty.
I would check for trouble codes first.

Good Evening, the first thing I'm going to ask is how long has it been since you changed the ignition control module in the distributor? We also run plow trucks in the winter all small block chevys and I run into the same thing from time to time that with age the part just goes out. Oddly enough it is never when you want to work on it just when you don't expect it. I would say get it off and get it tested, however I have seen a bad one test good before at the parts stores at least they are not really pricey. Any questions please feel free to ask.

Hi,
Check power is getting to low tension side of coil.
If it is - check Crank sensor for correct operation (use a diode checker and magnet)

Then replace coil / coilpack to elimnate that possible cause.

Check immobiliser operation if fitted.
