Hear a clunk a slight hesitation when just starting to accelerate. Repair shop says the motor mounts need to be replaced. Is this something a decently inclinded shade tree mechanic can tackle?

I would say so, Just have to jack up the motor and loosen the mount, lift engine up enough to give you some room. There are two bolts that hold on the mount.

For the motor mount, best case scenario is to have a lift and impact wrench to get the vehicle off the ground and to be able to loosen and tighten the subframe bolts. You will need two adjustable stands: one to support the engine and the other to support the sub-frame. 1) take the nut off of the top of the motor mount.2) lift the car in the air.3) take the nut off the bottom of the motor mount. 4) put a stand under the engine (on the oil pan with something in between to make sure you don't dent the oil pan).5) put another stand under the subframe of the engine.6) loosen the bolts for the subframe (should be a total of four).7) when the bolts are loose, lower the stand holding up the subframe slowly until you get enough space to remove the mount. 8) the new mount will have a nub on top and will be grooved on bottom, so, putting it in incorrectly is next to impossible. 9) when the new mount is in, raise the stand on the subframe to put it back in place. 10) tighten the subframe bolts.11) tighten the nut for the bottom of the motor mount.12) once everything is double checked to make sure it's secure, remove the stands under the subframe and engine and lower the car. 13) put the nut on the top of the motor mount and tighten. 14) check again to make sure all is well and your done! These are the steps I took to replace mine. Only exception is I had a lift. Total time? 45 minutes. Drives like a champ. I do highly recommend dropping the money for a mount from Chrysler as this is the second time I had to replace the front mount. The front mount was replaced with an aftermarket one that was a bit cheaper, however, broke after only 3,000 miles. Yes, one oil change.

Hi:
You need to check for a possible missing rubber bushing on the left front suspension, most likely on the control arm. My daughter's car had the same symptom, and that was what I ended up finding. I replaced all of bushings on where the torsion bars bolt up to the control arms, and it drove fine after that. I hope you have success in finding a fix.!

Usually a "clunk" when you put it in drive or reverse, might indicate a U-joint needing replaced.

I have a humming noise on my 2006 rendevous when you start to slow down and then you hear it all the time when you start to accelerate and also a clunking noise when you put it in gear.

The humming noise could be a wheel bearing, as for the clunking noise does it relate to the brakes at all? If it is with the brakes could be caliper/pad clip maybe the problem. If not brake related possibly it could be a motor mount.

I feel a slight thud in the steering and hear a light thud when I turn a corner; seems to happen most when the car has just started driving; is this an issue of power steering fluids, something in the rack...

This is most likely the steering knuckle or tie rod end that needs grease or most likley replacement. If your hear clunk when turning, then it is proabably the tie rod ends. If clunks while driving, then it may be the balljoints.
